While Jews are demanding spectacular signs and Greeks are searching for philosophy, we are preaching the Christ who was crucified -- a message that is a trap-stick to the Jews and nonsense to the Greeks, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks alike, the Christ who is God's power and God's wisdom.
Now if we preach that Christ has been raised from the dead, how is it that some of you are saying that there is no such thing as a resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised, and if Christ was not raised, the message which we preach has nothing in it; there is nothing in our faith either,read more.

Then Barnabas went over to Tarsus to search out Saul, and after he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. Now for a whole year their meeting with the church lasted, and they taught large numbers of people. It was at Antioch too that the disciples first came to be known as "Christians."
But Paul and Barnabas stayed on at Antioch, and with many others continued to teach the Lord's message and to tell the good news.
Meanwhile, a Jew named Apollos came to Ephesus. He was a native of Alexandria, a learned man, and skillful in the use of the Scriptures. He had been instructed about the way of the Lord, and with spiritual fervor he was speaking and was accurately teaching some details about Jesus, although he knew of no baptism but John's. He started speaking courageously in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him home with them and more accurately explained the way of God to him.
I never shrank from telling you anything that was for your good, nor from teaching you in public and in private,
Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptize them into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to practice all the commands that I have given you. And I myself will surely be with you all the days, down to the very close of an age."
But this is not the way you have learned what Christ means, if, as I take it, you have heard Him and in union with Him have been taught the truth as it is seen in Jesus, to lay aside, with your former way of living, your old self which is on the way to destruction in accordance with its deceptive impulses;read more.
and to have a new attitude of mind and put on the new self which has been created in the likeness of God, which fruits in right and holy living inspired by the truth.
Now, brothers, we ask and beg you, in the face of our union with the Lord Jesus, as you once received from us how you ought to live so as to please God -- as indeed you are living -- to continue to live this life better and better. For you are aware of the instructions which we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
You must continue telling the people what is proper for wholesome teaching: the older men to be temperate, serious, and sensible, healthy in faith, in love, and in steadfastness; the older women, too, to be reverent in their deportment, and not to be slanderers or slaves to heavy drinking, but to be teachers of what is right,read more.
so as to train the younger women to be affectionate wives and mothers, to be serious, pure, home keepers, kind, and subordinate to their husbands, so as not to cause God's message to suffer reproach. Keep urging the younger men to be sensible. In everything you yourself continue to set them a worthy example of doing good; be sincere and serious in your teaching, let your message be wholesome and unobjectionable, so that our opponent may be put to shame at having nothing evil to say about us. Continue urging slaves to practice perfect submission to their masters and to give them perfect satisfaction, to stop resisting them and stealing from them, but to show such perfect fidelity as to adorn, in everything they do, the teaching of God our Saviour. For God's favor has appeared with its offer of salvation to all mankind, training us to give up godless ways and worldly cravings and live serious, upright, and godly lives in this world, while we are waiting for the realization of our blessed hope at the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to ransom us from all iniquity and purify for Himself a people to be His very own, zealous of good works. You must continue teaching this, and continue exhorting and reproving people, with full authority. Let no one belittle you.
preach the message, stay at it in season and out of season; convince, reprove, exhort people with perfect patience as a teacher.
As they were leaving the synagogue, the people kept begging that all this be repeated to them the next sabbath, and after the congregation had broken up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism allied themselves with Paul and Barnabas, and they kept talking to them and urging them to continue to rely on the unmerited favor of God.
They told the good news in that town, and after winning many disciples there, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening the hearts of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith, and warning them that it is through enduring many hardships that we must get into the kingdom of God.
He passed through those districts and by continuing to talk to them encouraged the people. He then went on to Greece
Then what is our conclusion, brothers? When you meet together, everybody has a song, something to teach, a revelation, an ecstatic utterance, or an explanation of one. It must all be for the upbuilding of all. If anybody speaks in ecstasy, there must be only two, or three at most, and let one speak at a time, and someone explain what he says. But if there is no one to explain it, let him keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God alone.read more.
Let two or three prophets speak, and the rest consider carefully what is said; and if anything is revealed to another who is seated, let the speaker stop. For in this way you can all, one after another, speak your prophetic message, so that all may learn and be encouraged,
The things you learned from me before many witnesses you must commit to trustworthy men who will be competent to teach others too.
I prize and praise you for always remembering me and for firmly standing by the teachings as I passed them on to you.
So then, brothers, continue to stand firm and keep a tight grip on the teachings you have received from us, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
Continue to be an example in wholesome instructions which you learned from me, in the faith and love that come through union with Christ Jesus. Guard this fine deposit of truth by the aid of the Holy Spirit who has His home in our hearts.
As I begged you to do when I was on my way to Macedonia, I still beg you to stay on in Ephesus to warn certain teachers to stop devoting themselves to myths and never-ending pedigrees, for such things lead to controversies rather than stimulate our trusteeship to God through faith.
I am astonished that you are beginning so soon to turn away from Him who called you by the favor of Christ, to a different good news, which is not really another one; only there are certain people who are trying to unsettle you and want to turn the good news of Christ upside down. But even if I or an angel from heaven preach a good news that is contrary to the one which I have already preached to you, a curse upon him!read more.
As I have said it before, so now I say it again, if anybody is preaching to you a good news that is contrary to the one which you have already received, a curse upon him!
Now the Spirit distinctly declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, because they continuously give their attention to deceiving spirits and the things that demons teach through the pretensions of false teachers, men with seared consciences, who forbid people to marry and teach them to abstain from certain sorts of food which God created for the grateful enjoyment of those who have faith and a clear knowledge of the truth.read more.
For everything in God's creation is good, and nothing is to be refused, provided it is accepted with thanksgiving; for in this way it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. If you continue to put these things before the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, ever feeding your own soul on the truths of the faith and of the fine teaching which you have followed. But make it your habit to let worldly and old women's stories alone. Continue training yourself for the religious life.
