For once doth God speak, and twice, (He doth not behold it.) In a dream -- a vision of night, In the falling of deep sleep on men, In slumberings on a bed. Then He uncovereth the ear of men, And for their instruction sealeth: read more.
To turn aside man from doing, And pride from man He concealeth. He keepeth back his soul from corruption, And his life from passing away by a dart. And he hath been reproved With pain on his bed, And the strife of his bones is enduring. And his life hath nauseated bread, And his soul desirable food. His flesh is consumed from being seen, And high are his bones, they were not seen! And draw near to the pit doth his soul, And his life to those causing death. If there is by him a messenger, An interpreter -- one of a thousand, To declare for man his uprightness: Then He doth favour him and saith, 'Ransom him from going down to the pit, I have found an atonement.' Fresher is his flesh than a child's, He returneth to the days of his youth. He maketh supplication unto God, And He accepteth him. And he seeth His face with shouting, And He returneth to man His righteousness. He looketh on men, and saith, 'I sinned, And uprightness I have perverted, And it hath not been profitable to me. He hath ransomed my soul From going over into the pit, And my life on the light looketh.' Lo, all these doth God work, Twice -- thrice with man, To bring back his soul from the pit, To be enlightened with the light of the living.

'Ye are the salt of the land, but if the salt may lose savour, in what shall it be salted? for nothing is it good henceforth, except to be cast without, and to be trodden down by men. 'Ye are the light of the world, a city set upon a mount is not able to be hid; nor do they light a lamp, and put it under the measure, but on the lamp-stand, and it shineth to all those in the house; read more.
so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father who is in the heavens.

and he shall go before Him, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn hearts of fathers unto children, and disobedient ones to the wisdom of righteous ones, to make ready for the Lord, a people prepared.'

and in like manner also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon; and Jesus said unto Simon, 'Fear not, henceforth thou shalt be catching men;'

for see your calling, brethren, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but the foolish things of the world did God choose, that the wise He may put to shame; and the weak things of the world did God choose that He may put to shame the strong; and the base things of the world, and the things despised did God choose, and the things that are not, that the things that are He may make useless -- read more.
that no flesh may glory before Him;

'Ye are the salt of the land, but if the salt may lose savour, in what shall it be salted? for nothing is it good henceforth, except to be cast without, and to be trodden down by men.

'Ye are the salt of the land, but if the salt may lose savour, in what shall it be salted? for nothing is it good henceforth, except to be cast without, and to be trodden down by men.

The salt is good, but if the salt may become saltless, in what will ye season it? Have in yourselves salt, and have peace in one another.'

The salt is good, but if the salt doth become tasteless, with what shall it be seasoned?

Then, therefore, ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens of the saints, and of the household of God, being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being chief corner -stone,

and the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

And having seen the multitudes, he went up to the mount, and he having sat down, his disciples came to him, and having opened his mouth, he was teaching them, saying: Happy the poor in spirit -- because theirs is the reign of the heavens. read more.
Happy the mourning -- because they shall be comforted. Happy the meek -- because they shall inherit the land. Happy those hungering and thirsting for righteousness -- because they shall be filled. Happy the kind -- because they shall find kindness. Happy the clean in heart -- because they shall see God. Happy the peacemakers -- because they shall be called Sons of God. Happy those persecuted for righteousness' sake -- because theirs is the reign of the heavens. Happy are ye whenever they may reproach you, and may persecute, and may say any evil thing against you falsely for my sake -- rejoice ye and be glad, because your reward is great in the heavens, for thus did they persecute the prophets who were before you. 'Ye are the salt of the land, but if the salt may lose savour, in what shall it be salted? for nothing is it good henceforth, except to be cast without, and to be trodden down by men. And while he was yet speaking to the multitudes, lo, his mother and brethren had stood without, seeking to speak to him, and one said to him, 'Lo, thy mother and thy brethren do stand without, seeking to speak to thee.' And he answering said to him who spake to him, 'Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?' read more.
And having stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, he said, 'Lo, my mother and my brethren! for whoever may do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.'

And Jesus answering said to him, 'Happy art thou, Simon Bar-Jona, because flesh and blood did not reveal it to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens. 'And I also say to thee, that thou art a rock, and upon this rock I will build my assembly, and gates of Hades shall not prevail against it;

Then come do his brethren and mother, and standing without, they sent unto him, calling him, and a multitude was sitting about him, and they said to him, 'Lo, thy mother and thy brethren without do seek thee.' And he answered them, saying, 'Who is my mother, or my brethren?' read more.
And having looked round in a circle to those sitting about him, he saith, 'Lo, my mother and my brethren! for whoever may do the will of God, he is my brother, and my sister, and mother.'

for I think that God did set forth us the apostles last -- as appointed to death, because a spectacle we became to the world, and messengers, and men; we are fools because of Christ, and ye wise in Christ; we are ailing, and ye strong; ye glorious, and we dishonoured; unto the present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and wander about, read more.
and labour, working with our own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer; being spoken evil of, we entreat; as filth of the world we did become -- of all things an offscouring -- till now.

And to the wicked hath God said: What to thee -- to recount My statutes? That thou liftest up My covenant on thy mouth? Yea, thou hast hated instruction, And dost cast My words behind thee. If thou hast seen a thief, Then thou art pleased with him, And with adulterers is thy portion. read more.
Thy mouth thou hast sent forth with evil, And thy tongue joineth deceit together, Thou sittest, against thy brother thou speakest, Against a son of thy mother givest slander. These thou didst, and I kept silent, Thou hast thought that I am like thee, I reprove thee, and set in array before thine eyes. Understand this, I pray you, Ye who are forgetting God, Lest I tear, and there is no deliverer. He who is sacrificing praise honoureth Me, As to him who maketh a way, I cause him to look on the salvation of God!

Happy are ye whenever they may reproach you, and may persecute, and may say any evil thing against you falsely for my sake -- rejoice ye and be glad, because your reward is great in the heavens, for thus did they persecute the prophets who were before you. And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath, and lo, there was a woman having a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and she was bowed together, and not able to bend back at all, and Jesus having seen her, did call her near, and said to her, 'Woman, thou hast been loosed from thy infirmity;' read more.
and he laid on her his hands, and presently she was set upright, and was glorifying God.

Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'Yet a little time is the light with you; walk while ye have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he who is walking in the darkness hath not known where he goeth; while ye have the light, believe in the light, that sons of light ye may become.' These things spake Jesus, and having gone away, he was hid from them,

All things do without murmurings and reasonings, that ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God, unblemished in the midst of a generation crooked and perverse, among whom ye do appear as luminaries in the world,

Become, then, followers of God, as children beloved, and walk in love, as also the Christ did love us, and did give himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odour of a sweet smell, and whoredom, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as becometh saints; read more.
also filthiness, and foolish talking, or jesting, -- the things not fit -- but rather thanksgiving; for this ye know, that every whoremonger, or unclean, or covetous person, who is an idolater, hath no inheritance in the reign of the Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the sons of the disobedience, become not, then, partakers with them, for ye were once darkness, and now light in the Lord; as children of light walk ye,

And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you, for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come, for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail doth her who is with child, and they shall not escape; read more.
and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief; all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,
