It is not for kings, O Lemuel; it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes to desire strong drink.

Jehovah said to Aaron: Never drink beer or wine when you or your sons enter the sacred tent. If you do, you will die right there! This is a long lasting law from generation to generation. You must learn the difference (distinction) between what is holy and what is not holy and between the clean and the unclean.

Nazirites must never drink wine, liquor, vinegar made from wine or liquor, or any kind of grape juice. They must never eat fresh grapes or raisins. As long as they are Nazirites they must never eat anything that comes from a grapevine, not even grape seeds or skins.

Jehovah's angel answered: Your wife must be sure to do everything I told her. She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine. She must not drink any wine or beer, or eat any forbidden food. She must do everything I told her to do.

The drinking was in keeping with the law. No one was forced: for the king gave orders to all the chief servants of his house to do as was pleasing to every man.

Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it shines in the cup, when it goes down smoothly. In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like a viper.

But they answered: No! The ancestor of our clan, Jonadab son of Rechab, made a rule that we must obey. He said: 'Do not ever drink wine or build houses or plant crops and vineyards. Instead, you must always live in tents and move from place to place. If you obey this command, you will live a long time.' We have obeyed all the instructions that Jonadab gave us. We never drink wine, and neither do our wives, our sons, or our daughters.

Jonadab, Rechab's son, ordered his descendants not to drink wine. This order has been carried out. His descendants have not drunk any wine to this day, because they have obeyed their ancestor's order. I have spoken to you again and again, but you have refused to listen to me.

But I discipline my body, and bring it into subjection, so that after I have preached to others I will not be disqualified.

When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you. Put a knife to your throat, if you are a man with a strong desire (lust) (passion).

Have you found honey? Eat only what is needed or you will be too full and vomit.

Our friends, we command you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to keep away from all believers who walk disorderly and who do not follow the instructions that we gave them.

Whoever pushes ahead and does not remain in the teaching of Christ, does not have God! He who dwells in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. Do not receive anyone into your house who comes to you and does not bring this teaching. Give him no greeting! He who greets him partakes of his evil works.

Do not befriend an angry man. Do not associate with a man who throws fits. If you do you will learn his ways and you will become trapped.

Do not associate with drunkards or gluttons. For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.

Do not be envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them. Their minds meditate on evil, and their lips talk about trouble.

I wrote in a letter to you not to keep company with fornicators. Yet you cannot completely avoid the fornicators of this world, nor the greedy persons, nor cheaters and robbers, nor those who worship idols. To do so you would have to leave this world. I wrote you not to keep company with any man who is called a brother who is a fornicator, or who is greedy, or who worships idols, or constantly gets drunk, or cheats people. Do not even eat with such a person. read more.
What have I to do with judging those outside (in the world)? Do we not judge those who are inside (the congregation)? God judges those outside. Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.

If any man teaches a different doctrine, and does not consent to sound words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine that is according to godliness, he is proud, knows nothing, has a morbid interest in questions and disputes about words, which leads to envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, frictions between men corrupted in mind and lacking in truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.

How horrible it will be for those who get up early in the morning to look for a drink and who sit up late at night until they are drunk from wine. At their feasts there are lyres and harps, tambourines and flutes, and wine. Yet, they do not pay attention to what Jehovah is doing or respect what his hands have done.

Do not associate with drunkards or gluttons. For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.

They that sleep do so in the night. They that get drunk are drunk in the night.

As a thorn goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

These also stagger from wine and reel from beer. Priests and prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine. They reel from beer. They stagger when seeing visions. They stumble when rendering decisions.

By indolence the building decays; and through idleness of the hands the house collapses.

Do not associate with drunkards or gluttons. For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.

I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man lacking understanding. It was all grown over with thorns and nettles, and the wall of stone was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well. I looked on it, and received instruction: read more.
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep. Your poverty will come like a robber and your want like an armed man.
