The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: Therefore leave off contention, before there is quarrelling.


Go not forth hastily to strive, Lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, When thy neighbor hath put thee to shame. Debate thy cause with thy neighbor himself , And disclose not the secret of another; Lest he that heareth it revile thee, And thine infamy turn not away.

Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art with him in the way; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

Nay, already it is altogether a defect in you, that ye have lawsuits one with another. Why not rather take wrong? why not rather be defrauded? Nay, but ye yourselves do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

He that passeth by, and vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, Is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
