The natives showed us marked kindness, for they lit a fire and took us all under shelter, because it had come on to rain and was cold.

But to you who hear I say--Love your enemies, show kindness to those who hate you, Bless those who curse you, pray for those who insult you.
I, however, say to you--Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,
Therefore always receive one another as friends, just as the Christ himself received us, to the glory of God.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, ready to forgive one another, just as God, in Christ, forgave you.
Go and learn what this means--'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice'; for I did not come to call the religious, but the outcast."
Upon that the master sent for the servant, and said to him 'You wicked servant! When you begged me for mercy, I forgave you the whole of that debt. Ought not you, also, to have shown mercy to your fellow- servant, just as I showed mercy to you?'
Now which, do you think, of these three men," asked Jesus, "proved himself a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?" "The one that took pity on him," was the answer; on which Jesus said: "Go and do the same yourself."
Be on your guard! If your brother does wrong, reprove him; but if he repents, forgive him. Even if he wrongs you seven times a day, but turns to you every time and says 'I am sorry,' you must forgive him."
We, the strong, ought to take on our own shoulders the weaknesses of those who are not strong, and not merely to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his neighbor's good, to help in the building up of his character.
Lastly, you should all be united, sympathetic, full of brotherly love, kind-hearted, humble-minded;
A man must not study his own interests, but the interests of others.
Rich in all things yourselves, you will be able to show liberality to all, which, with our help, will cause thanksgiving to be offered to God. For the rendering of a public service such as this, not only relieves the needs of your fellow-Christians, but also results in the offering to God of many a thanksgiving. Through the evidence afforded by the service thus rendered, you cause men to praise God for your fidelity to your profession of faith in the Good News of the Christ, as well as for the liberality of your contributions for them and for all others.
Let us never tire of doing right, for at the proper season we shall reap our harvest, if we do not grow weary. Therefore, I say, as the opportunity occurs, let us treat every one with kindness, and especially members of the Household of the Faith.
Urge upon them to show kindness, to exhibit a wealth of good actions, to be open-handed and generous,
and a Servant of the Lord should never quarrel. He ought, on the contrary, to be courteous to every one, a skillful teacher, and forbearing.
Never forget to do kindly acts and to share what you have with others, for such sacrifices are acceptable to God.
Yes, and for this very reason do your best to supplement your faith by goodness, goodness by knowledge, knowledge by self-control, self-control by endurance, endurance by piety, piety by brotherly affection, and brotherly affection by love.
