Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So is he that goes in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent. Men do not take a thief lightly, even if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; and once he is taken, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. But whosoever commits adultery with a woman has a fault in his heart; he that does it corrupts his own soul. A wound and dishonour shall he get, and his reproach shall never be wiped away. For the jealous rage of a man will not spare in the day of vengeance.

There are three things which are hidden from me, yea, four which I know not: The track of the eagle in the air; the track of the serpent upon the rock; the track of the ship in the midst of the sea; and the track of the man in the maid. Such is the track of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.

And I have given her time to repent of her fornication, and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed and those that commit adultery with her into great tribulation unless they repent of their deeds.


This I say, therefore, and require in the Lord that from now on ye not walk as the other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their own senses, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart, who, after losing all sense of feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.
