and those who are enjoying the world as though they were not entirely absorbed in it. For the outward order of this world is passing away.

Let us, therefore, go to Him outside the camp, enduring the reproach that He endured;

continue to bless those who curse you, and continue to pray for those who abuse you.

But now you too must once for all put them all aside -- anger, rage, malice, and abusive, filthy talk from your lips.

What are we to conclude? Are we to keep on sinning, because we are not living as slaves to law but as subjects to God's favor? Never!

What is our conclusion then? Are we to continue to sin for His unmerited favor to multiply?

For you listen to a man, if he makes you his slave, or spends your money for his living, or cheats you, or puts on airs, or slaps you in the face.

We have worked hard with our own hands for a living. When abused by people, we bless them. When persecuted, we patiently bear it.

"Blessed are you when people abuse you, and persecute you, and keep on falsely telling all sorts of evil against you for my sake.

For you, brothers, were called to freedom; only you must not let your freedom be an excuse for the gratification of your lower nature, but in love be slaves to one another.

You husbands must continue to love your wives and stop being harsh with them.

At the same time two robbers were crucified with Him, one at His right and one at His left.

especially those who satisfy their lower nature by indulging in its evil passions which defile them, and who despise authority. Daring, headstrong men! They do not tremble when they abuse persons of majesty,

So whoever eats the bread and drinks from the Lord's cup in an unworthy way is guilty of sinning against the Lord's body and blood.

They are astonished that you are not still rushing hand in hand with them into the same excesses of profligate living, and they abuse you for it;

never returning evil for evil or abuse for abuse, but blessing instead, because it was for this that you were called, to obtain the blessing of heirs.

And the passers-by kept hissing at Him, shaking their heads

Live like free men, only do not make your freedom a pretext for doing evil, but live like slaves of God.

partly by being exposed as a public spectacle to insults and violent sufferings, and partly by showing yourselves ready to share with those who were living in this condition.

Now one of the criminals who were hanging from their crosses kept abusing Him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Then save yourself and us too!"
