A woman, when she gives birth, experiences pain because her hour has come. But when [her] child is born, she no longer remembers the affliction, on account of the joy that a human being has been born into the world.
Look, children [are] the heritage of Yahweh; the fruit of the womb [is] a reward.
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look! the virgin [is] with child and she is about to give birth [to] a son, and she shall call his name 'God with us.'
And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of heaven, and over every animal that moves upon the earth."
And I will bless her; moreover, I give to you from her a son. And I will bless her, and {she shall give rise to nations}. Kings of peoples shall come from her." And Abraham fell upon his face and laughed. And he said in his heart, "{Can a child be born to a man a hundred years old}, or {can Sarah bear a child at ninety}?" And God said, "No, but Sarah your wife shall bear a son for you, and you shall call his name Isaac. And I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant to his offspring after him.
And Isaac prayed to Yahweh on behalf of his wife, for she [was] barren. And Yahweh responded to his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
{In due time}, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She called his name Samuel, for [she said], "I requested him from Yahweh."
But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call his name John.
To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase {your pain in childbearing}; in pain you shall bear children. And to your husband [shall be] your desire. And he shall rule over you."
[He] causes the barren woman of the house to dwell [as] the happy mother of children. Praise Yah!
and they will be dismayed. Pangs and labor pains will seize [them]; they will tremble like a woman giving birth. {They will stare at one another}, {their faces flushing}.
Then they journeyed from Bethel. And {when they were still some distance} from Ephrath, Rachel went into labor. And she had hard labor. And {when her labor was the most difficult} the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid {for you have another son}." And it happened [that] when her life was departing (for she was dying), she called his name Ben-Oni. But his father called him Benjamin.read more.
And Rachel died and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that [is], Bethlehem).
Now all this happened in order that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying, "Behold, the virgin {will become pregnant} and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
Before she was in labor she gave birth; before labor pains came to her, she gave birth to a son.
So then, why do you shout a loud shout? Is there no king in you? Has your counselor perished that pangs like a woman in labor have seized you?
Therefore he will give them up until the time of she who is with child has given birth. And the rest of his brothers will return to the children of Israel.
For we know that the whole creation groans together and suffers agony together until now.

And on the eighth day his foreskin's flesh shall be circumcised. And [for] thirty-three days she shall stay in the blood of [her] cleansing; she must not touch any holy [object], and she may not come to the sanctuary until the fulfilling of the days of her cleansing. read more.
But if she gives birth to a female, then she shall be unclean [for] two weeks as [in] her menstruation, and [for] sixty-six days she shall stay {through} the blood of [her] cleansing. And at the fulfilling of the days of her cleansing, [whether] for a son or for a daughter, she must bring to the priest at the tent of assembly's entrance a {yearling} male lamb as a burnt offering and {young dove} or a turtledove as a sin offering. And [the priest] shall present it {before} Yahweh, and he shall make atonement for her, so that she shall be clean from the flow of her blood. This [is] the regulation of childbearing for the male or for the female. And if {she cannot afford} a sheep, then she shall take two turtledoves or two {young doves}--one as a burnt offering and one as a sin offering--and the priest shall make atonement for her, so that she shall be clean.'"
And when the days of their purification were completed according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present [him] to the Lord
