For he finds fault with them when he says: "The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath which he swore to our father Abraham:
You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.' For you first, God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways."
in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. To give a human example, brethren: even though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it. Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ.
For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
For where a will is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. For a will is in force only when somebody has died, since it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.
Likewise he took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
In the same way he took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
How much severer punishment do you think a man will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as an unclean thing the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
who has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weakened through the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin: he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks better than the blood of Abel.
then he adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more."
For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness exceed it in glory.
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for usfor it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree" in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
You show that you are a letter from Christ, delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of carnal hearts.
not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; for they did not continue in my covenant, and so I paid no heed to them, says the Lord. This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and I will write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,"
And they shall not teach every one his fellow or every one his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts. But whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
But as it is, he has obtained a ministry which is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.
For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us. Nor was it that he should offer himself again and again, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood not his own.
saying, "This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you." And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels used in worship. Indeed, under the law almost everything is cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.read more.
It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
For if what was fading away came with glory, much more is the glory of that which lasts.
For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no place sought for a second.
Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant,
