but he renounc'd Jesus, saying, woman, I don't know him. a little while after another seeing him, said, you are even one of them. but Peter said to him, man, I am not. about an hour after another confidently affirm'd, saying, this fellow was certainly with him; for he too is a Galilean. Peter reply'd, man, I don't know what you would say, and immediately while he was yet speaking, the cock crew.

whilst Peter stood without at the door. but that other disciple, who was known to the high priest went out, and spoke to her that kept the door, who let Peter in. then said the damsel, that kept the door, to Peter, are you also one of this man's disciples? I am not, said he.

but to his disciples he said, where is your faith? while they, seiz'd with fear and admiration, said to one another, who can this man be, that he commands even the winds, and the waves, and they obey?

whilst Jesus was at the stern, asleep on a pillow: upon which they awak'd him, crying out, master, have you so little concern to let us sink? then he rose,

but all this was to be done, in pursuance of what the prophets had predicted. then all the disciples abandon'd him, and fled.

upon this, Pilate propos'd to release him: but the Jews cried out, if you let this man go, you are not Cesar's friend: he that sets up for king, opposes Cesar. Pilate therefore hearing them talk at this rate, order'd Jesus to be brought forth, and then sat down in a place of Mosaic work on his tribunal, in Syriac call'd Gabbatha. it was then about the sixth hour of the day before the sabbath of the passover: and he said to the Jews, behold your king. read more.
but they cried out, away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate said to them, shall I crucify your king? the chief priests answered, we have no king but Cesar. upon which he delivered him up to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took Jesus and led him away.

nevertheless there were many even among the chief rulers, who believed on him; but they did not own it publickly for fear the Pharisees should excommunicate them. for they preferr'd their own reputation to the glory of God.

but when I saw, they conformed not their conduct to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all: if you being a Jew, live after the manner of the Gentiles, and not according to that of the Jews, why do you constrain the Gentiles to judaize?

Now one of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, was there, a ruler of the Jews: who came to Jesus by night, and said to him, rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher sent from God: for no man can perform the miracles that you do, except God be with him.
