Foolishness brings joy to one without sense,
but a man with understanding walks a straight path.
And I pray this: that your love will keep on growing in knowledge and every kind of discernment, so that you can approve the things that are superior and can be pure and blameless in the day of Christ,
Let whoever is wise understand these things,
and whoever is insightful recognize them.
For the ways of the Lord are right,
and the righteous walk in them,
but the rebellious stumble in them.
Your servant thought: May the word of my lord the king bring relief, for my lord the king is able to discern the good and the bad like the Angel of God. May the Lord your God be with you.”
By the time he learns to reject what is bad and choose what is good, he will be eating butter and honey.
You must distinguish between the holy and the common, and the clean and the unclean,
A rich man is wise in his own eyes,
but a poor man who has discernment sees through him.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or his stature, because I have rejected him. Man does not see what the Lord sees, for man sees what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.”
His delight will be in the fear of the Lord.
He will not judge
by what He sees with His eyes,
He will not execute justice
by what He hears with His ears,
From the Issacharites, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do: 200 chiefs with all their relatives under their command.
“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near—at the door!
The king consulted the wise men who understood the times, for it was his normal procedure to confer with experts in law and justice.
So give Your servant an obedient heart to judge Your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
“The days are coming”—this is the Lord’s declaration—
“when I will raise up a Righteous Branch of David.
He will reign wisely as king
and administer justice and righteousness in the land.
to another, the performing of miracles,
to another, prophecy,
to another, distinguishing between spirits,
to another, different kinds of languages,
to another, interpretation of languages.
Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should evaluate.
A discerning son keeps the law,
but a companion of gluttons humiliates his father.
But solid food is for the mature—for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.
Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
