to which Jesus reply'd, render to Cesar what belongs to Cesar, and to God what belongs to God. and they were surprized at the answer.
and you shall be happy in not receiving a requital: for you shall be recompenc'd at the resurrection of the just.
give to all that ask: and if a man takes away your goods, don't demand them again.
give and you shall receive: they shall pour into your lap good measure, well pressed, heap'd up, and running over. for in the measure you deal with others, you shall be dealt with yourselves.
give to him that asks you, and from him that would borrow of you turn not away.

if the family be worthy, your benediction shall have its effect; but if it be not worthy, it shall only redound to your own advantage.
but Zaccheus address'd himself to Jesus, and said, Lord, half my estate I give to the poor; and if I have wrong'd any man, I will give him four times the value.
they answer'd, Cesar's. then said he to them, render therefore unto Cesar, the things which are Cesar's: and unto God, the things that are God's.
if you should respectfully say to the suit of fine cloths, sit you there, that's for quality; and to the poor man, stand thou there, or place your self at my feet:
don't return evil for evil, nor calumny for calumny; on the contrary, bestow your benedictions, considering that your vocation obliges you thereto, as a means to obtain the divine blessing.
and not to men: considering that whatever good any man doth, he shall be rewarded for it by the Lord, whether he be a slave or free.
and then will be the end, when he shall deliver up the kingdom to God even the father; after having abolished all rule, and all authority, and power.
Then he said to the Pharisee, that had invited him, when you give a dinner, or a supper, don't call your friends, or your brethren, or kinsmen, or wealthy neighbours; lest they invite you again, and make you a requital.
since it is agreeable to his justice to afflict those in their turn, who afflict you:
Let him that is instructed in the word freely communicate his good things to him that teaches him.
he answer'd them, let him that hath two coats give one to him that hath none; and let him that has plenty of provisions act in like manner.
therefore, when you give alms, do not make a proclamation of it as the hypocrites do, in their publick assemblies by sound of trumpet, that they may have the applause of men. for I assure you, they have their reward.
