Now the natives showed us remarkable kindness, for they made us a fire and welcomed us to it because of the downpouring rain and the cold.

Then Peter, because he was filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Leaders and elders of the people, if it is for a good deed to a helpless man, or to learn how he was cured, that we are today being tried, you and all the people of Israel must know that it is by the authority of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead -- yes, I repeat it, it is by His authority that this man stands here before you well.

When we are slandered by them, we try to conciliate them. To this very hour we have been made the filth of the world, the scum of the universe!

But I say to you who listen now to me, practice loving your enemies, practice doing good to those who hate you, continue to bless those who curse you, and continue to pray for those who abuse you.

But I tell you, practice loving your enemies and praying for your persecutors,

Therefore, practice receiving one another into full Christian fellowship, just as Christ has so received you to Himself.

You must practice being kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has graciously forgiven you.

Go, learn what this means, 'It is mercy and not sacrifice that I want.' It is not upright but sinful people that I have come to invite."

Then his master called to him, and said, 'I cancelled all that huge debt of yours, because you pleaded with me to do so. Ought you not to have shown mercy to your fellow-slave, as I too had done for you?'

Which one of these three do you think proved himself a real neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?" He said, "The one who took pity on him." Jesus said to him, "Go and practice it yourself."

"Be always looking out for another. If your brother ever sins, reprove him, and if he repents, forgive him. Even if he sins against you seven times in a day and seven times turns to you and says, 'I am sorry,' you must forgive him."

It is the duty of us who are strong to bear with the weaknesses of those who are not strong, and not merely to please ourselves. Each one of us must practice pleasing his neighbor, to help in his immediate upbuilding for his eternal good.

Finally, you must all live in harmony, be sympathetic, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, humble,

No one should always be looking after his own welfare, but also that of his neighbor.

In every way you will grow richer and richer so as to give with perfect liberality, which will through me result in thanksgiving to God for it. Because the service rendered by this sacred offering is not only fully supplying the needs of God's people, but it is also running over with many thanks to God for it. For through the test you get by doing this service you will continue praising God for your fidelity to your confession of the good news of Christ, and for the liberality of your contributions to them and all others;

Let us stop getting tired of doing good, for at the proper time we shall reap if we do not give up. So then whenever we have an opportunity, let us practice doing good to everybody, but especially to the members of the family of faith.

charge them to continue doing good and being rich in good deeds, open-handed and generous hearted,

and a slave of the Lord must not quarrel but must be gentle to everybody; he must be a skillful teacher, and not resentful under injuries.

And stop neglecting to do good and to be generous, for God is highly pleased with just such sacrifices as these.

Now for this very reason you must do your level best to supplement your faith with moral character, moral character with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with patient endurance, patient endurance with piety, piety with brotherly affection, brotherly affection with universal love.
