But I tell you not to resist the one who injures you, but if anyone slaps you on one cheek, turn him the other, too;
To the man who strikes you on one cheek, offer him the other too; and from the man who takes away your coat, do not keep back your shirt either,
Take care that none of you ever pays back evil for evil, but always keep looking for ways to show kindness to one another and everybody.
Finally, you must all live in harmony, be sympathetic, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, humble, never returning evil for evil or abuse for abuse, but blessing instead, because it was for this that you were called, to obtain the blessing of heirs. Stop returning evil for evil to anyone. Always see to it that your affairs are right in the sight of everybody.
Stop taking revenge on one another, beloved, but leave a place for God's anger, for the Scripture says, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will pay them back, says the Lord."
But you must practice loving your enemies, doing good to them, and lending to them, despairing of nothing; so that your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
But I tell you, practice loving your enemies and praying for your persecutors,
We have worked hard with our own hands for a living. When abused by people, we bless them. When persecuted, we patiently bear it.
Do the opposite. If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink, for if you act in this way, you will heap burning coals upon his head!
After He had said this, one of the attendants standing by slapped Jesus in the face, and said, "Is this the way you answer the high priest?" Jesus answered him, "If I have said anything wrong, on oath tell what it is, but if what I have said is true, why do you slap me?"
After that they spit in His face and hit Him with their fists, and others boxed His ears,
and kept marching up to Him and saying, "All hail, you king of the Jews!" each one slapping Him on the face.
