And Jesus replying said, There was a certain man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among thieves, who after they had stripped and beaten him, went away, leaving him half dead.

so am I: are they ministers of Christ? (if I may speak as a fool) I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes far exceeding, in prisons more frequently, and often even in deaths. From the Jews I have five times received forty stripes save one. Thrice I have been beaten with rods, once I was stoned, thrice I have been shipwrecked, and was a night and a day on the deep:

And from that time began Jesus to acquaint his disciples, that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes; and be put to death, and be raised again on the third day.

Then Pilate therefore took Jesus and scourged Him.

For the future, let no one give me uneasiness: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up what is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

for this is an evidence of grace, if any one for conscience towards God endure griefs, suffering unjustly.

Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and utter all manner of reproach against you falsly, for my sake:

to slander no man, to avoid contention, to be gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

Speak not against one another, my brethren; he that speaketh against his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh against the law, and judgeth the law; but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Therefore laying aside all malice, and all deceit, and hypocrisies,

Now the chief priests and elders, and the whole council sought false-witness against Jesus, that they might put Him to death: but found none. And tho' many false witnesses came, they found none to their purpose. But at last came two false witnesses and said,

For what glory is it, if when ye sin and are punished for it, ye bear it patiently? but if when ye do well and suffer for it, ye bear it patiently, this will gain favor with God. who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously.

But though we had suffered before and been injuriously treated, as ye know, at Philippi, we spake boldly in the name of our God to declare unto you the gospel of God with much conflict.

Love worketh no evil to our neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
