This man, therefore, acquired a field with the reward of unrighteousness; and, falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out;

And, taking counsel, they bought with them the field of the potter, for a burial-place for the strangers.

"And they all, with one consent, began to make excuse. The first said to him, 'I bought a field, and I must go out to see it; I pray you, have me excused.'

For neither was any one among them in want; for as many as were possessors of lands or houses, selling them, were bringing the prices of the things sold,

But a certain man, Ananias by name, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, and kept back part of the price, his wife also knowing it; and, bringing a certain part, he laid it at the apostles' feet. But Peter said, "Ananias, why did Satan fill your heart, that you should lie to the Holy Spirit, and keep back part of the price of the land? read more.
While remaining, did it not remain your own? and, when sold, did it not continue in your own authority? Why did you conceive in your heart this thing? You did not lie to men, but to God." And Ananias, hearing these words, falling down, expired; and great fear came upon all who heard it; but the young men, rising up, wrapped him round; and, bearing him out, buried him. Now it came to pass about three hours after, that his wife also, not knowing what had happened, came in; and Peter made answer to her, "Tell me, if ye sold the place for so much?" And she said, "Yes, for so much."

"Hear another parable. There was a man?? householder??ho planted a vineyard, and placed a fence around it, and dug a wine-press, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad. And, when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen to receive his fruits. And the husbandmen, taking his servants, one, indeed, they beat; and one they killed; and one they stoned. read more.
Again he sent other servants more than the first; and they treated them likewise. But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will reverence my son.' But the husbandmen, seeing the son, said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and have his inheritance!' And, taking him, they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. When, therefore, the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those husband-men?" They say to Him, "He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render to him the fruits in their seasons."

And He began to speak to them in parables, "A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a wine-vat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. And, at the season, he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard. And, taking him, they beat him, and sent him away empty. read more.
And again he sent to them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and dishonored. And he sent another; and him they killed; and many others, beating some, and killing some. He had yet one, a beloved son; he sent him to them last, saying, 'They will pay deference to my son.' But those husbandmen said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' And, taking him, they killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. What, therefore, will the lord of the vineyard do! He will come, and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.

"But, seeing him, the husbandmen were reasoning one with another, saying, 'This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours.' And, having thrust him forth out of the vineyard, they slew him. What, therefore, will the lord of the vineyard do to them? He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and give the vineyard to others." And, having heard it, they said, "May it not be!"
