but that the holy ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and trouble abide me.
not drunken, no fighter, not given to filthy lucre: but gentle, abhorring fighting, abhorring covetousness,
see that ye feed Christ's flock, which is among you, taking the oversight of them: not as though ye were compelled thereto, but willingly; Not for the desire of filthy lucre, but of a good mind.
For a bishop must be faultless, as it becometh the minister of God; not stubborn, not angry, no drunkard, no fighter, not given to filthy lucre:
but have cast from us the cloaks of unhonesty, and walk not in craftiness, neither corrupt we the word of God: but walk in open truth, and report ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
Preach I man's doctrine or God's? Other go I about to please men? If I studied to please men, I were not the servant of Christ.
but as we were allowed of God, that the gospel should be committed unto us: even so we speak, not as though we intended to please men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
We are troubled on every side, yet are we not without shift. We are in poverty: but not utterly without somewhat. We are persecuted: but are not forsaken. We are cast down: nevertheless we perish not.
as sorrowing and yet always merry, as poor and yet make many rich, as having nothing and yet possessing all things.
