Then the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness; and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

So the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses and said, Why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?

And there was no water for the congregation; and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying, Oh, that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! And why have ye caused the congregation of the LORD to come into this wilderness that we and our beasts should die here?read more.
And why have ye made us to come up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? It is not a place to plant seed or of figs or of vines or of pomegranates; there is not even any water to drink.

And they journeyed from Mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to go around the land of Edom, and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread.

And when Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they feared greatly, and the sons of Israel cried out unto the LORD. And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why hast thou dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt?

And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness! And why has the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return into Egypt?

and ye murmured in your tents and said, Because the LORD hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorite, to destroy us.

But murmured in their tents and did not hearken unto the voice of the LORD.

And it came to pass that the people complained in an evil manner in the ears of the LORD, and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burnt among them and consumed in the uttermost parts of the camp.

How long shall I hear this evil congregation, which murmurs against me, the complaints of the sons of Israel, which they murmur against me? Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, according as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you. Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me;read more.
doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness, to overthrow their seed also among the Gentiles, and to scatter them in the lands.

Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured and perished by the destroyer.

Then the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather the word for every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

And it shall come to pass regarding the man whom I shall choose that his rod shall blossom; and I will resolve the complaints of the sons of Israel, with which they murmur against you.

My soul is cut off in my life; therefore, I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul; who long for death, but it comes not; and search for it more than for hid treasures; who rejoice exceedingly and are glad when they can find the grave;read more.
to the man who does not know which way he goes and whom God has hedged in? For my sighing comes before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters. For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. I never had prosperity, nor did I secure myself, neither was I at rest; yet trouble came.

Therefore, I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

And she was in bitterness of soul and prayed unto the LORD and wept sore;

I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me. In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; my sore bled in the night and ceased not; my soul refused to be comforted. I remembered God and cried out; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.

I shall pour out my complaint before him; before him I shall tell of my trouble.

Why was my pain perpetual and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar and as waters that fail?

And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara; for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty. Why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?

Today I will also speak with bitterness; my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest thou, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

So the posts passed from city to city through the land of Ephraim and Manasseh even unto Zebulun, but they laughed them to scorn and mocked them.

But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and misused his prophets until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, and there was no remedy.

It is certain that wrath kills the foolish man, and envy consumes the covetous one.

Truly my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my kidneys. But I was ignorant and did not understand; I was as a beast before thee.

The scorner does not love the one that reproves him, neither will he go unto the wise.

The foolishness of man perverts his way, and his heart is wroth against the LORD.

Mem Why does the living man have pain, the man in his sins?

But the hypocrites in heart shall irritate him more; they shall not cry out when he binds them.

But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not and do not be liars against the truth. This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical. For where there is envy and contention, there is confusion and every perverse work.

And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished and said, From where does this man have this wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? From where then does this man have all these things?read more.
And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour except in his own country and in his own house. And he did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

And he went out from there and came into his own country, and his disciples followed him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue; and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From where has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him and such mighty works that are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joses and of Juda and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.read more.
But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not dishonoured except in his own country and among his own kin and in his own house. And he could do no mighty work there except that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk and healed them. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went through the villages round about, teaching.

But when the princes of the priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did and the children crying out in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were sore displeased

Then his disciples came and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this word?

Many therefore of his disciples when they had heard this said, This is a hard word; who can hear it? But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at it, said unto them, Does this offend you?

The Jews then murmured of him because he said, I AM the bread which descended from the heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that he says, I descended from heaven? Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
