Brothers, do not be like children in understanding. When it comes to evil be innocent children but in your thinking be mature adults.
However, our citizenship is in heaven. We also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ will, through his power, bring everything under his authority. He will change our humble bodies and make them like his glorified (glorious) body (literally and figuratively: body of his glory). He is able to subject all things to himself.
Therefore leaving the elementary truths of the doctrine of Christ let us move on to maturity. Let us not lay again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God. We should not repeat the basic teachings about baptisms, and of the laying on of hands (setting apart for holy tasks), and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. We will do this if God permits.

When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, and reason like a child. When I became an adult I did away with childish things.
until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full-grown (mature) man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

By speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in all things to him. For he, Christ, is the head.

But solid food belongs to mature people. It belongs to those who by reason of use have their senses trained to know the difference between good and evil.
I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

You are renewed in the spirit (vital principles) (attitude) of your mind (understanding). Put on the new man, that in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
You have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord. Now walk (live) in union with him. Keep your roots deep in him! Build your lives on him. Become stronger in your faith, as you were taught, and be filled with thanksgiving.
Do not lie to one another, seeing that you got rid of the old self with its evil practices. You put on the new self that is being renewed to a true knowledge (full discernment) according to the image of the one who created him.
At this time you should be teachers. But you need someone to teach you again from the beginning the elementary truths from the Word of God. You need milk, not solid food. Everyone who drinks milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to mature people. It belongs to those who by reason of use have their senses trained to know the difference between good and evil.

Put away all badness and all deception, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil talk. Like newborn infants, long for the spiritual milk that is without deception to help you grow to salvation. You have tasted that the Lord is kind.
You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, avoid being carried away with the error of the wicked and falling from your own steadfastness. Grow in the unmerited favor and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
