But which of you having a servant plowing, or feeding cattle, will say to him, as soon as he comes in from the field, Come hither and sit down at table? But will he not rather say to him, Get ready my supper, and gird thyself, and wait upon me, till I have done, and afterwards thou shalt eat and drink. Is he obliged to that servant for doing what he was ordered?read more.
I think not. So likewise ye, when ye have done all things that were commanded you, say we are unprofitable servants, for we have done only what we ought to do.

But I would have you know that Christ is the head of every man; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

But a certain pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, held in much esteem by all the people, stood up in the council, and ordered the apostles to be taken out a little while; and then he said unto them,

and Paul looking earnestly at the sanhedrim, said, "Brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God even to this day:" but the high priest Ananias ordered those that stood next him, to smite him on the mouth. Then said Paul to him, "God will smite thee, thou whited wall: dost thou sit to judge me according to the law, and contrary to the law commandest me to be smitten?"read more.
But they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high-priest? And Paul said, I was not aware, brethren, that it was the high-priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

but they do all their works to be seen by men; they make their phylacteries broad, and enlarge the fringes of their garments, and love the uppermost places at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, and salutations in public assemblies, and to be called by men Rabbi, Rabbi.

And He said unto them as He was teaching them, Beware of the scribes, who love to walk in long robes, and salutations in public-places, and the chief seats in the synagogues, and uppermost places at feasts;

And He said to his disciples, in the audience of all the people, Beware of the scribes, who affect to walk in long robes, and love salutations in public places, and the chief seats in the Synagogues, and uppermost places at feasts;

Therefore when thou dost an alms-deed, do not proclaim it abroad, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may be applauded by men. Verily I tell you, they have their reward.

And when they came to Jesus, they intreated Him earnestly, saying, he is worthy of this favor: for he loveth our nation, and hath built us a synagogue.

My brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, in a partial respect of persons. For if there come into your synagogue a man with a gold ring in fine clothes, and there come in also a poor man in a mean habit; and ye turn your eyes toward him that weareth the fine clothes, and say to him, Sit thou here in an honorable place; and say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:read more.

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why doth your master eat with publicans and sinners?

And the scribes and pharisees, when they saw Him eating with publicans and sinners, said to his disciples, What is the meaning that He eateth with publicans and sinners?

And their scribes and pharisees murmured at his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

Then drew near unto Him all the publicans and other notorious sinners, to hear Him. And the pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man entertaineth wicked persons, and eateth with them.

The pharisee standing by himself prayed thus, O God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are, rapacious, unjust, adulterous, or even as this publican.

And as they were going from Jericho, a great multitude followed Him: and behold, two blind men siting by the way-side, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And the people rebuked them, that they might hold their peace: but they cried out the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.

And they came to Jericho: and as He was going out of Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimeus, the son of Timeus, sat by the way-side begging. And hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And many rebuked him, that he might hold his peace: but he cried out so much the more, Thou son of David, have pity on me.

And as he was near to Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way-side begging. And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, Jesus of Nazareth is coming by.read more.
And he cried out, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have compassion on me. And they, that went before, rebuked him, that he might hold his peace, but he cried out the more, O Son of David, have pity on me.

and as He entered into a certain village, there met Him ten men that were lepers: who stood at a distance, and lifted up their voice, saying, Jesus master, have pity on us.

And there was a poor man named Lazarus,

Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.read more.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be satisfied.

And lifting up his eyes on his disciples He said, Blessed are ye though poor; for the kingdom of God is yours. Blessed are ye that hunger now; for ye shall be satisfied. Blessed are ye that weep now; for ye shall laugh.

Then were brought to Him little children, that He might put his hands upon them, and bless them: and the disciples rebuked them; but Jesus said, Suffer the children to come to me, and do not hinder them: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And when He had laid his hands on them, he departed thence.

And they brought to Him little children that He might touch them: and the disciples rebuked those that brought them. Which Jesus observing, was much displeased, and said to them, Let the children come to me; and hinder them not; for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I tell you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall by no means enter into it.read more.
And He took them in his arms, and put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

And they brought to Him infants also, that He might touch them: and his disciples seeing it rebuked them. But Jesus called them to Him and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I tell you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall by no means enter into it.

And behold, there came one to Him, and said, Good master, what good shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And He said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou desirest to enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto Him, Which? Jesus replied, If thou wouldst be perfect, go, sell thy estate, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that, he went away sorrowful; for he had large possessions. Then said Jesus to his disciples, Verily I tell you, that a rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of heaven: and again I tell you, It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. His disciples, when they heard this, were exceedingly struck, and said, Who then can be saved? But Jesus looking upon them said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Then Peter replied and said unto Him, Behold we have quitted all and have followed thee; what then shall we have? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I tell you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon the twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel: yea and every one who hath left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, shall receive an hundred-fold, and shall inherit eternal life. But many that are first shall be last, and the last first.

And as he went out into the way, there came one running and kneeling to Him, and asked Him, Good master, what shall I do, that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? there is none good, but one, that is God. And Jesus looking round about saith to his disciples, How difficultly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus repeating it, saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them, that trust in riches, to enter into the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they were exceedingly amazed, saying one to another, Who then can be saved? For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? But He answered, Things impossible with men are possible with God. Then said Peter, Behold, we have quitted all, and followed Thee. And He said unto them, Verily I tell you, there is no one that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive manifold more even in this life, and in the world to come life everlasting.

He hath cast down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He hath sent away empty.

Now there was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, living voluptuously and splendidly every day. And there was a poor man named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table: and the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass that the poor man died,read more.
and was carried by angels to Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried. And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried out and said, Father Abraham, have pity on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. And Abraham said, Son, remember that thou receivedst thy good things in thy life-time, and likewise Lazarus his evils: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And besides, there is a great gulf fixed between us and you; so that they, who would pass from hence to you, cannot; nor can they pass to us, who would come from thence.

For ye see by your calling, brethren, that not many wise men according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called: but God hath chosen things that are foolish in the eye of the world to put it's wise men to confusion; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the mighty; and things in the opinion of the world ignoble, and despicable, and accounted as nothing, hath God chosen, to abolish things that are in esteem among men;read more.

At that time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is to be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus calling to Him a little child, set it in the midst of them, and said, Verily I declare unto you, unless ye be converted, and become like little children, ye shall never enter into the kingdom of heaven.read more.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he shall be greatest in the kingdom of heaven: and whoever shall receive one such little child for my sake, receiveth me:

And he came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He asked them, What were ye disputing about among yourselves by the way? But they held their peace; for they had been disputing with each other by the way who should be the greatest. So He sat down and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any one would be first, let him be last of all, and servant of all.read more.
And He took a child and set him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms He said unto them, Whoever shall receive one of these little children in my name, receiveth me; and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not me only, but Him that sent me.

Then a dispute rose among them, which of them should be greatest. And Jesus knowing the thought of their heart, took a child and set him by Him, and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this little child for my sake, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth Him that sent me. For he that is lest among you all, shall be great.

Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him, together with her two sons, falling down before Him, and presenting a petition to Him. And He said unto her, What dost thou desire? She saith unto Him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on the left in thy kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask: are ye able to drink of the cup which I am going to drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?read more.
They replied, We are able. And He saith unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of my cup, and shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give, but to those for whom it is prepared by my Father. And when the other ten heard it, they were provoked at the two brethren: but Jesus called them to Him and said, Ye know that the princes of the gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority upon them: it shall not be so among you; but whosoever would be great among you, let him be your minister, and whoever would be chief among you, let him be your servant: as the Son of man came not to be ministred unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

Then come to Him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying, Master, we desire that thou wouldest do for us what we shall request: and He said to them, What do ye desire me to do for you? they said unto Him, Grant that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left, in thy glory.read more.
But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink of the cup, that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? And they said, We can. And Jesus said unto them, The cup indeed which I drink, ye shall drink of; and with the baptism, that I am baptized with, shall ye be baptized: but to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give, but for whom it is prepared. And when the other ten heard it, they were provoked at James and John. But Jesus called them to Him, and said unto them, Ye know that those who rule among the Gentiles, lord it over them, and their grandees exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whoever would be great among you shall be your minister; and whoever of you would be first shall be servant of all. For the Son of man came not to be ministred unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

And He spake a parable to those that were invited, observing how they chose the chief seats, saying unto them, When thou art invited by any one to a wedding, do not sit down in the uppermost place, least one more honorable than thou be invited by him; and he who invited thee and him, should come and say to thee, Give place to this person, and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place.read more.
But when thou art invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, that, when he who invited thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then wilt thou have honor before them that sit at table with thee: for whosoever exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

And when He had washed their feet, and taken his clothes about Him, He sat down again, and said to them, Do ye know the intent of what I have been doing to you? Ye call me, Master, and Lord; and ye say well; for so I am. If I then your Lord and Master have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet.read more.
For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you.

Do nothing through strife or vain-glory, but in lowliness of mind each esteeming others better than themselves. Look not every one to his own interests only, but every one also to the concerns of others. Let the same mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

and there is neither Jew nor Greek, those is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

For he that is called in the Lord being a slave, is the Lord's freed-man: and he likewise that is called being free is the servant of Christ.

Nevertheless, neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman was originally from the man, so also is the man by the woman: but all things are from God.

Let the brother that is low rejoice in his exaltation: but the rich in his humiliation, because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
