And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of the well of water which Abimelech's servants had taken away violently. Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. There was not a city that made peace with the sons of Israel, except the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle.

Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh-gilead. And all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
