But we have in ourselves the sentence of death, that we may not trust in ourselves, but in God, who raises the dead;

And he came to his disciples, and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter: Was it so, that you had not strength to watch with me one hour?

And he came and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter: Simon, do you sleep? Had you not strength to watch one hour?

And he arose from prayer, and came to his disciples, and found them asleep for sorrow.

All this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him and fled.

And they all forsook him and fled.

For many will come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and will deceive many.

professing to be wise, they became foolish,

For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; and I will set aside the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of- this world? For, since in the wisdom of God, the world, by its wisdom, knew not God, it has pleased God, through the foolishness of what is preached, to save those who believe.

and these have a show of wisdom in will-worship and affected humility and neglect of the body, and in no regard for the gratification of the flesh.

Then Jesus said to him: Put back your sword into its place; for all that take the sword, shall perish by the sword.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal.

He that received seed among the thorns, is he that hears the word; and the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
