but we had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we might not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead:

And coming to the disciples, he findeth them asleep, and saith to Peter, what! could ye not watch with me one hour?

And He cometh and findeth them asleep, and saith to Peter, Simon, art thou sleeping? couldst thou not watch one hour?

And when He rose up from prayer, He came to his disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow;

that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.

And the disciples all forsook Him and fled: but there followed Him a certain youth,

for many shall come in my name saying, I am the Christ, and shall deceive many.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, "He taketh the wise in their own craftiness:" and again, "The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."

Pretending to be wise they Became fools:

For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputant of the age? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For, since in the wisdom of God the world by it's wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by what they called the folly of preaching to save those that believe.

which things indeed have a pretence to wisdom in voluntary worship, and humiliation, and bodily penance, as having no regard to the satisfying of the flesh.

Then said Jesus to him, Put up thy sword into it's place; for they that take the sword shall perish by the sword:

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal:

And he that received the seed among the thorns, is one that likewise heareth the word; but the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choketh the word, and so it becometh unfruitful.
