(though ye know not what will be on the morrow; for what is your life? a vapor, which appeareth for a little while, and then vanisheth away:) whereas ye ought to say,

For when the sun is risen with it's sultry heat, it drieth up the grass, and the flower of, it falleth, and the beauty of it's appearance is lost: so shall the rich man fade away in his projects.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, "He taketh the wise in their own craftiness:" and again, "The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."

so that they are inexcusable; because having thus known God they glorified Him not as God, neither were they thankful; but were infatuated by their own reasonings, and their heart being void of understanding was darkened.

This I say therefore, and charge you in the name of the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, darkened in their understanding, and alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is in them, by reason of the hardness of their heart:

He hath wrought powerfully with his arm; He hath confounded those that were proud in the imagination of their heart. He hath cast down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the humble.

For some time ago one Theudas arose, pretending to be some extraordinary person, to whom was joined a number of men, about four hundred: who was slain, and all that followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. After him arose Judas the Galilean, at the time of the registring, and drew much people after him: but he also perished, and all that followed him were dispersed. And therefore as to the present affair I advise you to refrain from these men and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nothing;

If therefore ye be dead with Christ from the elements of the world; why, as if living in the world, are ye subject to ceremonial ordinances, (such as "touch not, taste not, handle not," which all tend to corruption in the using,) according to the commandments and doctrines of men?read more.
which things indeed have a pretence to wisdom in voluntary worship, and humiliation, and bodily penance, as having no regard to the satisfying of the flesh.

saying, This people approach me with their mouth, and honour me with their lips, but their heart is far from me: but in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the injunctions of men.

But He answered them, Well did Esaias prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me: and in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the injunctions of men.

And I, my brethren, could not speak to you, as to spiritual persons, but as to carnal ones, even as to babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat; for ye were not hitherto able to bear it, nor yet are ye even now able. Because ye are still carnal: for while there is among you envy and strife and divisions, are ye not carnal, and do ye not walk as men?

If any among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his heart, this man's devotion is vain.

But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and strifes and contentions about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain:

Let no one deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Let no one deprive you of your reward by an affected humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into what he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his carnal mind;

from which some having swerved are turned aside to vain discourses;

These things remind them of, charging them before the Lord not to contend about words, which is profitable for nothing, and tends to the subversion of the hearers.

For when they speak swelling words of vanity, they ensnare in the lusts of the flesh, through their lasciviousness, those who had indeed withdrawn from such as deal in error;

I am the vine, ye are the branches; he that abideth in me, and I in him, beareth much fruit: but without me ye can do nothing.

silver, precious stones, or wood, hay, stubble; every man's work shall be made manifest. For the great day will shew it; because it will be discovered by fire, and the fire will prove every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide, which he hath built upon it, he shall receive a reward:read more.
but if any man's work be burnt, he will be damaged; though he himself shall be saved, but, as it were out of fire.

for we are graciously offered it, as they also were. But the word, which they heard, did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

And whoever heareth these words of mine, and performeth them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: and the rain fell upon it, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell, and the fall thereof was great.

and regardeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and snatcheth away that which was sown in his heart: this is he who received the seed as by the way-side. And he who received the seed as upon stony grounds, is one that heareth the word and immediately receiveth it with joy: yet hath he no root in himself, and therefore is but for a short season; and when affliction cometh, or persecution on account of the word, he is as soon disgusted.read more.
And he that received the seed among the thorns, is one that likewise heareth the word; but the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choketh the word, and so it becometh unfruitful.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a mirror, who beheld himself, and went away, and immediately forgot what manner of man he was.

But desirest thou to know, O vain man, that faith without works, is dead?

And have no communion with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

knowing that ye were redeemed from your vain conversation learned by tradition from your fathers, not with corruptible things, as silver and gold;

If therefore any one purify himself from these corruptions, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified and fitted for the Master's use, being prepared for every good work.
