'Alone' in the Bible
But he answered, "It is written, 'Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
They cried out, "Son of God, leave us alone! Have you come here to torment us before the time?"
And after he sent the crowds away, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone.
When they looked up, all they saw was Jesus alone.
"If your brother sins, go and show him his fault when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have regained your brother.
"But as for that day and hour no one knows it -- not even the angels in heaven -- except the Father alone.
But the rest said, "Leave him alone! Let's see if Elijah will come to save him."
"Leave us alone, Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are -- the Holy One of God!"
"Why does this man speak this way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
When he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.
Then he cried out with a loud voice, "Leave me alone, Jesus, Son of the Most High God! I implore you by God -- do not torment me!"
When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea and he was alone on the land.
Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John and led them alone up a high mountain privately. And he was transfigured before them,
Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a good service for me.
Then someone ran, filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Leave him alone! Let's see if Elijah will come to take him down!"
Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'Man does not live by bread alone.'"
"Ha! Leave us alone, Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are -- the Holy One of God."
Then the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to think to themselves, "Who is this man who is uttering blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
how he entered the house of God, took and ate the sacred bread, which is not lawful for any to eat but the priests alone, and gave it to his companions?"
When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and shouted with a loud voice, "Leave me alone, Jesus, Son of the Most High God! I beg you, do not torment me!"
Then all the people of the Gerasenes and the surrounding region asked Jesus to leave them alone, for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and left.
After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. So they kept silent and told no one at that time anything of what they had seen.
A spirit seizes him, and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions and causes him to foam at the mouth. It hardly ever leaves him alone, torturing him severely.
But Martha was distracted with all the preparations she had to make, so she came up to him and said, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the work alone? Tell her to help me."
But the worker answered him, 'Sir, leave it alone this year too, until I dig around it and put fertilizer on it.
Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
Then Jesus, because he knew they were going to come and seize him by force to make him king, withdrew again up the mountainside alone.
The next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the lake realized that only one small boat had been there, and that Jesus had not boarded it with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone.
Now when they heard this, they began to drift away one at a time, starting with the older ones, until Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
But if I judge, my evaluation is accurate, because I am not alone when I judge, but I and the Father who sent me do so together.
And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do those things that please him."
So Jesus said, "Leave her alone. She has kept it for the day of my burial.
I tell you the solemn truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces much grain.
Look, a time is coming -- and has come -- when you will be scattered, each one to his own home, and I will be left alone. Yet I am not alone, because my Father is with me.
So in this case I say to you, stay away from these men and leave them alone, because if this plan or this undertaking originates with people, it will come to nothing,
"Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars; I alone am left and they are seeking my life!"
Did the word of God begin with you, or did it come to you alone?
But if anyone has caused sadness, he has not saddened me alone, but to some extent (not to exaggerate) he has saddened all of you as well.
Now an intermediary is not for one party alone, but God is one.
And as you Philippians know, at the beginning of my gospel ministry, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in this matter of giving and receiving except you alone.
So when we could bear it no longer, we decided to stay on in Athens alone.
He alone possesses immortality and lives in unapproachable light, whom no human has ever seen or is able to see. To him be honor and eternal power! Amen.
You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
From the elder, to an elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth (and not I alone, but also all those who know the truth),
Who will not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name, because you alone are holy? All nations will come and worship before you for your righteous acts have been revealed."
