'Grief' in the Bible

For how can I go back to my father without the boy? I could not bear to see the grief that would overwhelm my father.”

When Moses reported these words to all the Israelites, the people were overcome with grief.

Any man from your family I do not cut off from My altar will bring grief and sadness to you. All your descendants will die violently.

Why is light given to one burdened with grief,and life to those whose existence is bitter,

If only my grief could be weighedand my devastation placed with it in the scales.

My eyes have grown dim from grief,and my whole body has become but a shadow.

The king will mourn;the prince will be clothed in grief;and the hands of the people of the land will tremble.I will deal with them according to their own conduct,and I will judge them by their own standards.Then they will know that I am Yahweh.

Because you have disheartened the righteous person with lies, even though I have not caused him grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked person not to turn from his evil way to save his life,

Cry out and wail, son of man,for it is against My people.It is against all the princes of Israel!They are given over to the sword with My people.Therefore strike your thigh in grief.

Now I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because your grief led to repentance. For you were grieved as God willed, so that you didn’t experience any loss from us.

For godly grief produces a repentance not to be regretted and leading to salvation, but worldly grief produces death.

Indeed, he was so sick that he nearly died. However, God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, so that I would not have one grief on top of another.

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

For it brings favor if, mindful of God’s will, someone endures grief from suffering unjustly.

As much as she glorified herself and lived luxuriously,give her that much torment and grief,for she says in her heart,“I sit as a queen;I am not a widow,and I will never see grief.”

For this reason her plagues will come in one day—death and grief and famine.She will be burned up with fire,because the Lord God who judges her is mighty.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.Death will no longer exist;grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer,because the previous things have passed away.
