'Works' in the Bible
‘O Lord God, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as Yours?
and His signs and His works which He did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt and to all his land;
Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the Lord has destroyed your works.” So the ships were broken and could not go to Tarshish.
Because they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore My wrath will be poured out on this place and it shall not be quenched.”’
Remember, O my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these works of theirs, and also Noadiah the prophetess and the rest of the prophets who were trying to frighten me.
Who does great things, unfathomable,And wondrous works without number.
“Therefore He knows their works,And He overthrows them in the night,And they are crushed.
You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;You have put all things under his feet,
He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness,And speaks truth in his heart.
Because they do not regard the works of the LordNor the deeds of His hands,He will tear them down and not build them up.
He who fashions the hearts of them all,He who understands all their works.
Come, behold the works of the Lord,Who has wrought desolations in the earth.
Say to God, “How awesome are Your works!Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will give feigned obedience to You.
Come and see the works of God,Who is awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men.
Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,Who alone works wonders.
But as for me, the nearness of God is my good;I have made the Lord God my refuge,That I may tell of all Your works.
Yet God is my king from of old,Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth.
For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song.We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks,For Your name is near;Men declare Your wondrous works.
We will not conceal them from their children,But tell to the generation to come the praises of the Lord,And His strength and His wondrous works that He has done.
That they should put their confidence in GodAnd not forget the works of God,But keep His commandments,
In spite of all this they still sinnedAnd did not believe in His wonderful works.
There is no one like You among the gods, O Lord,Nor are there any works like Yours.
For You, O Lord, have made me glad by what You have done,I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.
How great are Your works, O Lord!Your thoughts are very deep.
Bless the Lord, all you works of His,In all places of His dominion;Bless the Lord, O my soul!
He waters the mountains from His upper chambers;The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.
O Lord, how many are Your works!In wisdom You have made them all;The earth is full of Your possessions.
Let the glory of the Lord endure forever;Let the Lord be glad in His works;
They quickly forgot His works;They did not wait for His counsel,
Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,And tell of His works with joyful singing.
They have seen the works of the Lord,And His wonders in the deep.
Great are the works of the Lord;They are studied by all who delight in them.
He has made known to His people the power of His works,In giving them the heritage of the nations.
The works of His hands are truth and justice;All His precepts are sure.
I will not die, but live,And tell of the works of the Lord.
The Lord will accomplish what concerns me;Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting;Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;Wonderful are Your works,And my soul knows it very well.
One generation shall praise Your works to another,And shall declare Your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of Your majestyAnd on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.
The Lord is good to all,And His mercies are over all His works.
All Your works shall give thanks to You, O Lord,And Your godly ones shall bless You.
“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way,Before His works of old.
Poor is he who works with a negligent hand,But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
Commit your works to the LordAnd your plans will be established.
A worker’s appetite works for him,For his hunger urges him on.
A lying tongue hates those it crushes,And a flattering mouth works ruin.
She looks for wool and flaxAnd works with her hands in delight.
Give her the product of her hands,And let her works praise her in the gates.
I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind.
I enlarged my works: I built houses for myself, I planted vineyards for myself;
Go then, eat your bread in happiness and drink your wine with a cheerful heart; for God has already approved your works.
Just as you do not know the path of the wind and how bones are formed in the womb of the pregnant woman, so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things.
Lord, You will establish peace for us,Since You have also performed for us all our works.
“Behold, all of them are false;Their works are worthless,Their molten images are wind and emptiness.
Another shapes wood, he extends a measuring line; he outlines it with red chalk. He works it with planes and outlines it with a compass, and makes it like the form of a man, like the beauty of man, so that it may sit in a house.
Their webs will not become clothing,Nor will they cover themselves with their works;Their works are works of iniquity,And an act of violence is in their hands.
“For I know their works and their thoughts; the time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory.
I will pronounce My judgments on them concerning all their wickedness, whereby they have forsaken Me and have offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.
provoking Me to anger with the works of your hands, burning sacrifices to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you are entering to reside, so that you might be cut off and become a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
In all your dwellings, cities will become waste and the high places will be desolate, that your altars may become waste and desolate, your idols may be broken and brought to an end, your incense altars may be cut down, and your works may be blotted out.
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.”
“The statutes of OmriAnd all the works of the house of Ahab are observed;And in their devices you walk.Therefore I will give you up for destructionAnd your inhabitants for derision,And you will bear the reproach of My people.”
