'Fig' in the Bible

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.

Then the trees said to the fig tree,“Come and reign over us.”

But the fig tree said to them,“Should I stop givingmy sweetness and my good fruit,and rule over trees?”

Throughout Solomon’s reign, Judah and Israel lived in safety from Dan to Beer-sheba, each man under his own vine and his own fig tree.

“Don’t listen to Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: ‘Make peace with me and surrender to me. Then every one of you may eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and every one may drink water from his own cistern

Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,and whoever looks after his master will be honored.

The fig tree ripens its figs;the blossoming vines give off their fragrance.Arise, my darling.Come away, my beautiful one.

The fading flower of his beautiful splendor,which is on the summit above the rich valley,will be like a ripe fig before the summer harvest.Whoever sees it will swallow itwhile it is still in his hand.

I will gather them and bring them to an end.This is the Lord’s declaration.There will be no grapes on the vine,no figs on the fig tree,and even the leaf will wither.Whatever I have given them will be lost to them.

I will devastate her vines and fig trees.She thinks that these are her wagesthat her lovers have given her.I will turn them into a thicket,and the wild animals will eat them.

I discovered Israellike grapes in the wilderness.I saw your fatherslike the first fruit of the fig tree in its first season.But they went to Baal-peor,consecrated themselves to Shame,and became detestable,like the thing they loved.

It has devastated My grapevineand splintered My fig tree.It has stripped off its bark and thrown it away;its branches have turned white.

The grapevine is dried up,and the fig tree is withered;the pomegranate, the date palm, and the apple—all the trees of the orchard—have withered.Indeed, human joy has dried up.

Don’t be afraid, wild animals,for the wilderness pastures have turned green,the trees bear their fruit,and the fig tree and grapevine yield their riches.

I struck you with blight and mildew;the locust devouredyour many gardens and vineyards,your fig trees and olive trees,yet you did not return to Me.This is the Lord’s declaration.

But each man will sit under his grapevineand under his fig treewith no one to frighten him.For the mouth of the Lord of Hostshas promised this.

How sad for me!For I am like one who—when the summer fruit has been gatheredafter the gleaning of the grape harvest—finds no grape cluster to eat,no early fig, which I crave.

All your fortresses are fig treeswith figs that ripened first;when shaken, they fall—right into the mouth of the eater!

Though the fig tree does not budand there is no fruit on the vines,though the olive crop failsand the fields produce no food,though there are no sheep in the penand no cattle in the stalls,

On that day, each of you will invite his neighbor to sit under his vine and fig tree.” This is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.
