'Thorns' in the Bible
“Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;And you will eat the plants of the field;
But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall come about that those whom you let remain of them will become as pricks in your eyes and as thorns in your sides, and they will trouble you in the land in which you live.
know with certainty that the Lord your God will not continue to drive these nations out from before you; but they will be a snare and a trap to you, and a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you.
Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they will become as thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you.’”
Gideon said, “All right, when the Lord has given Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will thrash your bodies with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.”
He took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and he disciplined the men of Succoth with them.
“But the worthless, every one of them will be thrust away like thorns,Because they cannot be taken in hand;
“His harvest the hungry devourAnd take it to a place of thorns,And the schemer is eager for their wealth.
Before your pots can feel the fire of thornsHe will sweep them away with a whirlwind, the green and the burning alike.
They surrounded me like bees;They were extinguished as a fire of thorns;In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off.
The way of the lazy is as a hedge of thorns,But the path of the upright is a highway.
Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse;He who guards himself will be far from them.
“Like a lily among the thorns,So is my darling among the maidens.”
“I will lay it waste;It will not be pruned or hoed,But briars and thorns will come up.I will also charge the clouds to rain no rain on it.”
And it will come about in that day, that every place where there used to be a thousand vines, valued at a thousand shekels of silver, will become briars and thorns.
People will come there with bows and arrows because all the land will be briars and thorns.
As for all the hills which used to be cultivated with the hoe, you will not go there for fear of briars and thorns; but they will become a place for pasturing oxen and for sheep to trample.
For wickedness burns like a fire;It consumes briars and thorns;It even sets the thickets of the forest aflameAnd they roll upward in a column of smoke.
And the light of Israel will become a fire and his Holy One a flame,And it will burn and devour his thorns and his briars in a single day.
“I have no wrath.Should someone give Me briars and thorns in battle,Then I would step on them, I would burn them completely.
For the land of my people in which thorns and briars shall come up;Yea, for all the joyful houses and for the jubilant city.
“The peoples will be burned to lime,Like cut thorns which are burned in the fire.
Thorns will come up in its fortified towers,Nettles and thistles in its fortified cities;It will also be a haunt of jackalsAnd an abode of ostriches.
For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem,“Break up your fallow ground,And do not sow among thorns.
“They have sown wheat and have reaped thorns,They have strained themselves to no profit.But be ashamed of your harvestBecause of the fierce anger of the Lord.”
And you, son of man, neither fear them nor fear their words, though thistles and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions; neither fear their words nor be dismayed at their presence, for they are a rebellious house.
“Therefore, behold, I will hedge up her way with thorns,And I will build a wall against her so that she cannot find her paths.
For behold, they will go because of destruction;Egypt will gather them up, Memphis will bury them.Weeds will take over their treasures of silver;Thorns will be in their tents.
Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheol?Shall I redeem them from death?O Death, where are your thorns?O Sheol, where is your sting?Compassion will be hidden from My sight.
Like tangled thorns,And like those who are drunken with their drink,They are consumedAs stubble completely withered.
Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.
And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop.

They *dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on Him;
For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush.
Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out.
The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him;
Jesus then came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate *said to them, “Behold, the Man!”
but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.
