When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' "Then he will say to those on his left hand, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'

For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, will by no means lose his reward.

And he answered them, "He who has two tunics, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise."

But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and gave alms generously to the people and prayed to God continually.

For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. They were pleased to do it, and indeed they are in debt to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings.

If I give all I have to the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you must also do. On the first day of every week, each one of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come. And when I arrive, I will send those whom you approve with letters to carry your gift to Jerusalem.

Now, brethren, we want you to know about the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. urgently pleading with us for the privilege of sharing in the relief of the saints. And they did not do as we expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God. So we urged Titus that as he had previously made a beginning, he would also complete in you this work of grace. But as you excel in everythingin faith, in utterance, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in your love for ussee that you excel in this work of grace also. I am not speaking this as a command, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that through his poverty you might become rich. And in this matter I give my advice: it is best for you now to complete what a year ago you began not only to do but to desire. Now finish the work, so that your readiness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he does not have. For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; but at the present time your abundance should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be equality. As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack."

Therefore openly before the churches, show these men the proof of your love and the reason for our boasting about you.
