I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you took me in. I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me.' The righteous will answer him: 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you as a stranger and take you in, or naked and dress you? When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?' The King will answer: 'To the extent that you did it to one of the least of my brothers, you did it to me.'
Jehovah opens the eyes of the blind. Jehovah raises up those who are bowed down. Jehovah loves the righteous.
Jehovah said: Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, I will go down now and see whether they have done the bad things I have been told. Then I will know. The men left there and went toward Sodom. Abraham still stood before Jehovah.read more.
Abraham came near and said: Will you destroy the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city. Would you also destroy the place and not spare it because the righteous people are there? Surely you would not do that! Would you slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked? Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? Jehovah said: If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, I will spare the entire place for their sakes. Then Abraham answered and said: Indeed now, I who am only dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to Jehovah: Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous. Would you destroy the entire city for lack of five? So He (God) said: If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it. Abraham spoke again: Suppose there should be forty found there? God replied: I will not do it for the sake of forty. Abraham then said: Do not be angry, and let me speak. Suppose thirty should be found there? God replied: I will not do it if I find thirty there. Abraham then said: Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to Jehovah: Suppose twenty should be found there? God replied: I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty. Abraham again queried: Please do not be angry as I speak once more: Suppose ten should be found there? God said: I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.
Therefore the wicked will not stand (be upright) in the judgment. The sinners will not stand (endure) in the assembly of the righteous. Jehovah knows (is fully aware of) the way of the righteous. But the way of the wicked will perish.
Better is the little of the righteous than the abundance of many wicked. The arms of the wicked will be broken, but Jehovah sustains the righteous.
Throw your burden upon Jehovah and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be shaken!
The way of Jehovah is a rock (stronghold) to the upright. The workers of iniquity will be destroyed.
Jehovah will not allow the righteous to hunger. He rejects the mischief of the wicked.
I have been young, and now I am old, but I have never seen a righteous person abandoned or his descendants begging for food.
The righteous eats to satisfaction. The belly of the wicked is in need.
He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous. He enthrones them with kings and exalts them forever.
Jehovah puts a curse on the homes of the wicked, but blesses the homes of the just.
Blessings cover the head of the righteous. Violence covers the mouth of the wicked. The memory of the righteous is blessed. The name of the wicked will waste away.
The eyes of Jehovah (God) are upon the righteous. His ears hear their prayers. But the face (person) of Jehovah is against those who do evil.
Righteous people cry out. Jehovah hears and rescues them from all their troubles.
It reveals the righteousness of God from faith-to-faith for it is written: The righteous shall live by faith.
The fact that the Law justifies no man before God is evident. The righteous will live by faith.
My righteous people will live by faith. If any of them turn back, I will not be pleased with them.
A man will not stand firm on sin. The root of the righteous will not be moved.
The righteous will never be removed. The wicked will not inhabit the earth.
He who trusts in his riches will fall. The righteous will flourish as a leaf on a branch.
The wicked are overthrown and are no more. The house of the righteous will stand.
But suppose a righteous person turns away from doing right and he does evil things. He does all the disgusting things that the wicked person did. Will he live? All the right things that he has done will not be remembered because of his unfaithfulness and because of his sin. He will die because of them.
Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe makes the discerning blind to what is right and perverts the words of the righteous.
Never pervert justice. Always be impartial. Never take a bribe, because bribes blind wise people and deny justice to those who are in the right.
For the rod of the wicked shall not rest on the lot of the righteous in case the righteous put forth their hands to iniquity.
If righteous people turn from living the right way and do wrong, I will make them stumble and they will die. If you do not warn them, they will die because of their sin. The right things they did will not be remembered. I will hold you responsible for their deaths.
Son of man, tell the Israelites that when someone good sins, the good he has done will not save him. If an evil person stops doing evil he will not be punished, and if a good man starts sinning, his life will not be spared. I may promise life to someone good, but if he starts thinking that his past goodness is enough and begins to sin, I will not remember any of the good he did. He will die because of his sins.
The wicked plots against the righteous and grinds at him with his teeth. Jehovah laughs at him, for he sees that his day will come.
O Jehovah, I have called on you, so do not let me be put to shame. Let wicked people be put to shame. Let them be silent in the grave. Let their lying lips be speechless, since they speak against righteous people with arrogance and contempt.
They join forces to take the lives of righteous people. They condemn innocent people to death.
Jehovah has given full vent to his rage. He has poured out his burning anger. He set a fire in Zion causing the destruction of its foundation. To the kings of the earth and to all the people of the world it did not seem possible that the attackers and the enemy would enter the gates of Jerusalem. It is because of the sins of her prophets and the evil doing of her priests. They have drained the blood of the upright out from her.
Jehovah said: I will not withdraw punishment for (three sins of Israel, even for four) the many transgressions of Israel! They sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes. They pant after the dust of the earth on the head of lowly (meek) persons. They reject the humble! A man and his father have sexual relations with the same maiden, to profane my holy name.
I know you have many transgressions and your sins are great. You afflict the righteous. You take bribes. You refuse to help the needy at the gate.
The law is paralyzed and justice is never delivered. The wicked surround the righteous and deliver perverted justice.
You will then act as true children of your Father in heaven. He gives sunlight to both evil and good people. He sends rain for the just and the unjust.
The righteous will inherit (seize) (take possession of) the earth, and dwell on it forever (in perpetuity).
The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. Men will say: Truly there is a reward for the righteous. Truly there is a God who judges the earth.
Righteous people flourish like palm trees and grow tall like the cedars in Lebanon. They are planted in Jehovah's house. They blossom in our God's courtyards. Even when they are old, they still bear fruit. They are always healthy and fresh.read more.
They make it known that Jehovah is upright. He is my rock. He is never unrighteous.
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is intense anger.
Adversity pursues sinners. The righteous will be repaid with goodness. A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. The wealth of the sinner is preserved for the righteous.
There is treasure in the house of the righteous. The earnings of the wicked bring trouble.
Tell the righteous that blessings will come to them. They will taste the fruit of their labor.
The righteous perishes and no man takes it to heart. Merciful men are taken away, while no one considers that the righteous is taken away from evil.
The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.
Jesus said to his host: When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your rich neighbors. They will invite you back, and in this way you will be paid for what you did. When you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. You will be blessed because they are not able to pay you back. God will repay you on the day the good people rise from death.
With your power (by your hand) rescue me from mortals, O Jehovah, from mortals who look forward only to this life. You fill their bellies with your treasure. Their children are satisfied with it, and they leave what remains to their children. I will see your face (be in your presence) when I am declared righteous. When I wake up, I will be satisfied to see (perceive) (comprehend) you.
They will be my people, said Jehovah of Hosts. On the day when I act, they will be mine (my special treasure) (my jewels). I will show them compassion just as parents show compassion to the children who serve them. Once again my people will see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between the person who serves God and the one who does not.
This I confess to you that according to The Way, which they call a sect, I serve the God of our fathers. I believe all the things written in the law and the prophets. I have hope toward God, which they also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the righteous and the unrighteous. I exercise myself always, to have a conscience void of offense toward God and toward men.
