They said: No other God is like Jehovah! Who can go near him and still live? We must send the chest away from here. But where can we send it?
Can any mortal be righteous to God? Can any human being be pure to his maker?
What is man, that he could be pure? Or he who is born of woman, that he could be righteous?
Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became angry. He was angry with Job because he justified himself rather than God.
No flesh will be justified before God by works of the law. Knowledge of sin comes from the law.
But Israel, pursuing after a law of righteousness, has not attained to that law.
Yet we know that a man is not righteous by the works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ. We believed on Christ Jesus, that we might be righteous by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law. The works of the law justify no one.
The fact that the Law justifies no man before God is evident. The righteous will live by faith.
By grace (Greek: charis, divine favor, loving-kindness) you have been saved through faith. It is not from you. It is the gift from God! It is not the result of works. So no man should boast.
not by works done in righteousness, which we did, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration (restoration) (spiritual rebirth) and renewing (renovation) of the Holy Spirit.
The entire world, the desire of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of material wealth, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
They may sin against you. There is no man who is without sin. You may become angry with them and hand them over to an enemy who takes them to another country as captives, whether it is far or near.
All of us have become unclean, and all our righteous acts are like permanently stained rags. All of us wither like leaves, and our sins carry us away like the wind.
O Jehovah, God of Israel, righteousness is yours. We are only a small band that has been kept from death this day. See, we are before you in our sin. For no one may keep his place before you because of this.
Everyone has turned away. Together they have become rotten to the core. No one, not even one person, does good things.
O Jehovah, righteousness belongs to you! Shame belongs to us this day! To the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries you have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against you.
Stop trusting people, whose breath (life) is in their nostrils. How can they be worth anything?
When I select an appointed time, it is I who judge in righteousness. The earth and all who dwell in it dissolve (melt) (become faint hearted). I have firmly set its pillars. I said to the boastful: Do not boast! I said to the wicked: Do not lift up the horn (brag about your power)!
This is what Jehovah says: Cursed is the person who trusts humans, who makes flesh and blood his strength and whose heart turns away from Jehovah.
I also tell you, your righteousness must be greater than the scribes and Pharisees or you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
They are ignorant of God's righteousness. They seek to establish their own righteousness and have not submitted to the righteousness of God.
Jehovah has made his salvation known. He has uncovered his righteousness for the nations to see.
I bring near my righteousness. It is not far away. My salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.
My righteousness is near. My salvation is on the way and my arm (power) will bring justice to the nations. The islands will look to me and wait in hope for my arm (power).
This is what Jehovah says: Do not let wise people brag about their wisdom. Do not let strong people brag about their strength. Do not let rich people brag about their riches. If they want to brag, instead let them advocate (glory) (celebrate) that they understand and know me. They should advocate that I, Jehovah, act out of love, righteousness, and justice on the earth. This kind of celebration pleases me, declares Jehovah.
It reveals the righteousness of God from faith-to-faith for it is written: The righteous shall live by faith.
Through him all who believe are justified from all things. You could not be justified through the Law of Moses.
It is because of him you are united with Christ Jesus, who became wisdom to us from God, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.
He made the one who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf. That way we might become the righteousness of God in him.
We are justified (acquitted) (made righteous) by faith. And we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
For we through the Spirit by faith wait for the hope of righteousness.

But the tax collector stood far away and would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven. He beat his breast, saying: God, be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you the tax collector and not the Pharisee was right with God when he went home. He who exalts himself will be humbled! He who humbles himself will be exalted!
Where is the boasting? It is excluded. Is it by law? Is it by works? No, it is by a principle of faith.
Let it be as it is written, He that boasts, let him boast in Jehovah! (Jeremiah 9:24)
For who made you superior to (different than) another? What do you have that you did not receive? If you did receive it, why do you brag, as if you did not receive it?
If I need to boast, I will boast about the things that concern my infirmities.
He told me: My grace is sufficient for you for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore, I would rather glory in my infirmities (frailities), that the power of Christ may rest upon me (cover me like a tent) (descend upon me) (abide with me). (Isaiah 40:29-31)
For not even those who receive circumcision obey the Law. They desire to have you circumcised, that they may boast in your flesh. Never should I boast except in the stake (symbolic: self-denial and atonement) of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is through this stake that the world has been impaled to me, and I to the world.
Things that offered gain to me I count a loss for Christ. I count all things to be loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. I suffered the loss of all things. Yet I count them as refuse (garbage) (dung) that I may gain Christ. I want to be united with him. I no longer want a righteousness of my own that is gained by obeying the law. The righteousness from God is by faith in Christ.
