Stop talking against one another, brothers. Whoever is in the habit of talking against a brother or of criticizing his brother is criticizing and condemning the law. But if you are in the habit of criticizing the law, you are not a practicer but a critic of the law.
So I tell you, for every worthless word that men utter they will have to give account on the day of judgment;
and keep your conscience clear, so that those who bitterly abuse your excellent conduct as Christians may be ashamed of slandering you.
because they overflow with every sort of evil-doing, wickedness, greed, and malice; they are full of envy, murder, quarreling, deceit, ill-will; they are secret backbiters, open slanderers, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful; inventors of new forms of evil, undutiful to parents, conscienceless, treacherous, with no human love or pity.
I repeat it, I am apprehensive that, somehow or other, there may be quarreling, jealousy, anger, rivalries, slanders, gossiping, haughty pride, and disorders,
for from the inside, that is, from the hearts of men, designs for doing evil come, sexual immorality, stealing, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, abusiveness, haughtiness, thoughtlessness. All these evils come from the inside of a man and make him foul."
You must remove all bitterness, rage, anger, loud threats, and insults, with all malice.
But now you too must once for all put them all aside -- anger, rage, malice, and abusive, filthy talk from your lips.
the older women, too, to be reverent in their deportment, and not to be slanderers or slaves to heavy drinking, but to be teachers of what is right,
So once for all get rid of all malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all sorts of slander,
Keep on living upright lives among the heathen, so that, when they slander you as evildoers, by what they see of your good deeds they may come to praise God on the judgment day.
When we are slandered by them, we try to conciliate them. To this very hour we have been made the filth of the world, the scum of the universe!
