Jehovah said to Moses: How much longer will these people reject me? How much longer will they refuse to trust in me, even though I have performed many miracles among them?

In spite of all this they still sinned. They did not believe in his wonderful works.

You do not have his word dwelling in you. This is because you do not believe in the person he has sent.

The unbelieving Jews stirred up the people of the nations and poisoned their minds against the brothers.

Because they did not believe in God and did not trust in his salvation.

Indeed, we have had good news presented to us. They also had it. But the word that was heard did not benefit them because they were not united in faith by what was heard.

The god of this age (world) (religious, social, political, and economic arrangement) has blinded the minds of unbelievers that the light of the good news of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine on them.

Be careful, brothers and sisters, that none of you develop a wicked heart lacking faith and turning away (departing) from the living God.

I was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and a violent aggressor. I was shown mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

Both father and child immediately shouted: I have faith make my faith stronger.

Therefore speaking in tongues is a sign not for believers, but for those who do not believe. Prophesying (proclaiming God's Word) serves the believer and not the unbeliever. All of you who are at least twenty years old, who were registered and listed, and who complained about me will die. I raised my hand and swore an oath to give you this land to live in. But none of you will enter it except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. You said your children would be taken as prisoners of war. Instead, I will bring them into the land you rejected, and they will enjoy it. But your bodies will drop dead in this desert. Your children will be shepherds in the desert for forty years. They will suffer for your unfaithfulness until the last of your bodies lies dead in the desert. You explored the land for forty days. So for forty years, one year for each day, you will suffer for your sins and know what it means for me to be against you.' I, Jehovah, have spoken. I swear I will do these things to all the people in this whole wicked congregation. For they have joined forces against me. They will meet their end in this desert. Here they will die!' The men Moses sent to explore the land died in front of Jehovah from a plague. They died because they had returned and made the whole community complain about Moses. They spread lies about the land. Of all the men who went to explore the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived. Moses told these things to all the Israelites. The people mourned bitterly, as if someone had died.

Jehovah heard what you said. He was angry and solemnly swore: Not one man of this evil generation will see that good land, which I swore to give your fathers,

Do not grumble like some of them grumbled. Venomous snakes killed them.

He told them: It was because of your lack of faith: Truly I say to you, if you have faith as small as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move and it will move. Nothing will be impossible to you.
