Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, they were terribly frightened and filled with awe, and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left.
And above His head they put the accusation against Him which read, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Now He said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. And after saying this, He said to him, “Follow Me [walk the same path of life that I have walked]!”
And he was saying, “Jesus, [please] remember me when You come into Your kingdom!”
Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all replied, “Let Him be crucified!”
From that time on Jesus began to show His disciples [clearly] that He must go to Jerusalem, and endure many things at the hands of the elders and the chief priests and scribes (Sanhedrin, Jewish High Court), and be killed, and be raised [from death to life] on the third day.
And Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing His clothes among themselves.
who was betrayed and crucified because of our sins, and was raised [from the dead] because of our justification [our acquittal—absolving us of all sin before God].
for I made the decision to know nothing [that is, to forego philosophical or theological discussions regarding inconsequential things and opinions while] among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified [and the meaning of His redemptive, substitutionary death and His resurrection].
And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he handed over Jesus to their will.
[And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “He was counted with the transgressors.”]
and how the chief priests and our rulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and crucified Him.
