1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam the son of Nebat, Abijam began to reign over Judah.
1 Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah.
1 In the eighteenth year of Israel’s King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king over Judah
1 Abijah reigned over Judah starting in the eighteenth year of Nebat's son Jeroboam's reign.
2 Three years he reigned in Jerusalem. The name of his mother [was] Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.
2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was (a)(B)Maacah the daughter of (b)(C)Abishalom.
2 Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.

3 He walked in all the sins of his father that he had done before him, and his heart was not fully with Yahweh his God as the heart of David his father.
3 He walked in all the sins of his father which he had committed before him; and (D)his heart was not (c)wholly devoted to the Lord his God, like the heart of his father David.
3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
3 Abijam walked in all the sins his father before him had committed,(C) and he was not completely devoted to the Lord his God as his ancestor David had been.(D)
3 He practiced the same sins that his father committed before he was born. Unlike his ancestor David, his heart never became devoted to the LORD his God.
4 For the sake of David, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, by establishing his son after him and by causing Jerusalem to exist;
4 But for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a (E)lamp in Jerusalem, to raise up his son after him and to establish Jerusalem;
4 Nevertheless for David's sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:
4 But because of David, the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem to raise up his son after him and to establish Jerusalem.(E)
4 Nevertheless, for the sake of David, the LORD his God maintained a lamp for David in Jerusalem by raising up his son after him so that Jerusalem would be established,
5 because David did right in the eyes of Yahweh and he didn't turn aside from all that he commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
5 (F)because David did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, (G)except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.
5 Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
5 For David did what was right in the Lord’s eyes, and he did not turn aside from anything He had commanded him all the days of his life,(F) except in the matter of Uriah(G) the Hittite.
5 because David had practiced what the LORD considered to be right. He never avoided anything that the LORD had commanded him during his entire lifetime, except for the case of Uriah the Hittite.
7 The remainder of the acts of Abijam and all that he did, are they not written in the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Judah? There was also war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
7 Now (I)the rest of the acts of Abijam and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? (J)And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
7 Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.

7 The rest of Abijah's accomplishments, including everything he undertook, are written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah, are they not? And a state of war continued to exist between Abijah and Jeroboam.
8 Abijam slept with his ancestors, and they buried him in the city of David, and Asa his son became king in his place.
8 (K)And Abijam slept with his fathers and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son became king in his place.
8 And Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead.
8 Abijam rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of David.(K) His son Asa became king in his place.(L)
8 Eventually, Abijah died, as did his ancestors, and he was buried in the City of David. His son Asa succeeded him as king.
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam the king of Israel, Asa became the king of Judah.
9 So in the twentieth year of Jeroboam the king of Israel, Asa began to reign as king of Judah.
9 And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah.
9 Asa began to reign as Judah's king during the twentieth year of the reign of Jeroboam as king over Israel.
10 He reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [was] Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.

12 He put away the male shrine prostitutes from the land, and he removed all of the idols that his ancestors made.
12 (N)He also put away the male cult prostitutes from the land and (O)removed all the idols which his fathers had made.
12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
12 He banished the male cult prostitutes(P) from the land and removed all of the idols that his fathers had made.(Q)

13 Also, he had Maacah his mother removed from the office of queen mother, [as] she had made a repulsive image for the Asherah. Asa also cut down her repulsive image and burned it in the Wadi Kidron.
13 (d)(P)He also removed Maacah his mother from being queen mother, because she had made a horrid image (e)as an Asherah; and Asa cut down her horrid image and (Q)burned it at the brook Kidron.
13 And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron.
13 He also(R) removed his grandmother(d) Maacah from being queen mother because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. Asa chopped down her obscene image and burned it(S) in the Kidron Valley.(T)
13 He removed his mother Maacah from her position as Queen Mother because she had made a detestable image dedicated to Asherah. Asa cut down his mother's idol, crushed it, and burned it at the Kidron Brook.
14 But the high places he did not remove. Nevertheless, the heart of Asa was completely with Yahweh all of his days.
14 (R)But the high places were not taken away; nevertheless (S)the heart of Asa was (f)wholly devoted to the Lord all his days.
14 But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect with the LORD all his days.
14 The high places were not taken away;(U) but Asa’s heart was completely devoted to the Lord his entire life.(V)
14 Nevertheless, the high places were not removed, even though Asa's heart was blameless toward the LORD all of his life.
15 He brought the holy objects of his father and his [own] holy objects to the house of Yahweh, silver and gold and utensils.
15 (T)He brought into the house of the Lord the dedicated things of his father and his own dedicated things: silver and gold and utensils.
15 And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels.
15 He brought his father’s consecrated gifts and his own consecrated gifts into the Lord’s temple: silver, gold, and utensils.(W)
15 Asa brought into the LORD's Temple the things that his father had dedicated, as well as his own dedicated gifts such as silver, gold, and temple service implements.
17 Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and he built Ramah {to hinder the coming and going of anyone to Asa} king of Judah.
17 (V)Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and (g)(W)fortified Ramah (X)in order to prevent anyone from going out or coming in to Asa king of Judah.
17 And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
17 Israel’s King Baasha went to war against Judah.(Y) He built Ramah(Z) in order to deny anyone access to Judah’s King Asa.
17 King Baasha of Israel invaded Judah and interdicted Ramah by building fortifications around it so no one could enter or leave to join King Asa of Judah.
18 Asa took all of the silver and gold remaining in the storerooms of the house of Yahweh and in the treasury rooms of the house of the king, and he gave them into the hand of his servants; so King Asa sent them to Ben-Hadad the son of Tabrimmon the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who lived in Damascus, saying,
18 Then (Y)Asa took all the silver and the gold which were left in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and the treasuries of the king’s house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants. And (Z)King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Aram, who lived in (AA)Damascus, saying,
18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants: and king Asa sent them to Benhadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
18 So Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple(AA) and the treasuries of the royal palace and put it into the hands of his servants. Then King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad(AB) son of Tabrimmon son of Hezion king of Aram who lived in Damascus,(AC) saying,
18 But Asa removed all the silver and gold from the treasuries of the Lord's Temple and from his royal palace, placed them into the care of some servants, and then sent them to Tabrimmon's son King Ben-hadad of Aram, the grandson of Hezion, who lived in Damascus.
19 "[Let there be] a covenant between me and you, between my father and your father. Look, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold. Go, break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel that he may go up [away] from me."
19 “Let there be a (AB)treaty between (h)you and me, as between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you a present of silver and gold; go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so that he will withdraw from me.”
19 There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
19 “There is a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father.(AD) Look, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold. Go and break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel(AE) so that he will withdraw from me.”
19 "Let's make a treaty between you and me," he said, "just like the one between my father and your father. Notice that I've sent you silver and gold to break your treaty with King Baasha of Israel, so he'll retreat from his attack on me."
20 Ben-Hadad listened to King Asa, and he sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel and he attacked Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, and all of Kinnereth, in addition to all the land of Naphtali.
20 So Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, and (i)conquered (AC)Ijon, (AD)Dan, (AE)Abel-beth-maacah and all (AF)Chinneroth, besides all the land of Naphtali.
20 So Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the hosts which he had against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelbethmaachah, and all Cinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.
20 Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel. He attacked Ijon,(AF) Dan,(AG) Abel-beth-maacah,(AH) all Chinnereth,(AI) and the whole land of Naphtali.(AJ)
20 So King Ben-hadad did just what King Asa had asked: he sent his commanding officers to attack the cities of Israel, conquering Ijon, Dan, Abel-beth-maacah, all of Chinneroth, and the territory of Naphtali.
22 Then King Asa proclaimed among all of Israel that there was no one free from obligation, so they carried the stones of Ramah and its wood with which Baasha had built, and King Asa rebuilt Geba in Benjamin with them, and the Mizpah.
22 Then King Asa made a proclamation to all Judah—none was exempt—and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber with which Baasha had built. And King Asa built with them (AI)Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.
22 Then king Asa made a proclamation throughout all Judah; none was exempted: and they took away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.
22 Then King Asa gave a command to everyone without exception in Judah, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and the timbers Baasha had built it with. Then King Asa built Geba(AL) of Benjamin and Mizpah(AM) with them.
22 so King Asa published a proclamation throughout Judah (no one was left out) and they carried away the stones and timber with which Baasha had been fortifying Judah. King Asa used them to fortify Geba in Benjamin and Mizpah.
23 The remainder of the acts of Asa, all of his achievements, all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Judah? But at the time of his old age, {he developed a foot disease}.
23 (AJ)Now the rest of all the acts of Asa and all his might and all that he did and the cities which he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.
23 The rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Nevertheless in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.

24 Asa slept with his ancestors and was buried with his ancestors in the city of David his ancestor; Jehoshaphat his son became king in his place.

25 Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.
25 Now (AL)Nadab the son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.
25 And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.
25 Nadab son of Jeroboam(AS) became king over Israel in the second year of Judah’s King Asa; he reigned over Israel two years.
25 Jeroboam's son Nadab became king over Israel during the second year of the reign of King Asa over Judah. He reigned over Israel for two years,
26 He did evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and he walked in the way of his father and in his sin that he caused Israel to commit.
26 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, and (AM)walked in the way of his father and (AN)in his sin which he made Israel sin.
26 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.
26 Nadab did what was evil in the Lord’s sight and followed the example of his father and the sin he had caused Israel to commit.(AT)

27 Baasha son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar conspired against him, and Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines. Now Nadab and all of Israel [were] laying siege to Gibbethon,
27 Then (AO)Baasha the son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar conspired against him, and Baasha struck him down at (AP)Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.
27 And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon.
27 Then Baasha(AU) son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar conspired against Nadab, and Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon(AV) of the Philistines while Nadab and all Israel were besieging Gibbethon.
27 So Ahijah's son Baasha from the household of Issachar conspired against him and killed Nadab at Gibbethon in Philistia while Nadab and all of Israel were attacking Gibbethon.
28 and Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa the king of Judah, and he reigned in his place.
28 So Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah and reigned in his place.
28 Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, and reigned in his stead.
28 Baasha killed him during the third year of the reign of King Asa of Judah and took Nadab's place as king.
29 It happened that as soon as he became king, he killed all of the house of Jeroboam. There was no one left of Jeroboam who breathed, until he had destroyed him according to the word of Yahweh that he had spoken by the hand of his servant, Ahijah the Shilonite,
29 It came about as soon as he was king, he struck down all the household of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam (k)any persons alive, until he had destroyed them, (AQ)according to the word of the Lord, which He spoke by His servant Ahijah the Shilonite,
29 And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite:
29 When Baasha became king, he struck down the entire house of Jeroboam.(AY) He did not leave Jeroboam any survivors but(e) destroyed his family according to the word of the Lord He had spoken through His servant Ahijah the Shilonite.(AZ)
29 As soon as he was established as king, he killed everyone in the household of Jeroboam. He left not even one single person alive. He destroyed them completely, just as the LORD had spoken through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite,
30 because of the sins of Jeroboam that he had committed and that he had caused Israel to commit [and] because of his anger [with] which he had provoked Yahweh the God of Israel.
30 and because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and (AR)which he made Israel sin, because of his provocation with which he provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger.
30 Because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger.
30 This was because Jeroboam had provoked(f) the Lord God of Israel by the sins he had committed and had caused Israel to commit.(BA)
30 because of the sins that Jeroboam had committed, and because he led Israel into sin, provoking the LORD God of Israel to become angry.
31 Now the remainder of the acts of Nadab and all that he did, [are] they not written on the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Israel?

33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah had become king over all of Israel; [he lived] in Tirzah twenty-four years.
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah became king over all Israel at Tirzah, and reigned twenty-four years.
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty and four years.
33 In the third year of Judah’s King Asa, Baasha son of Ahijah became king over all Israel and reigned in Tirzah(BD) 24 years.

34 He did evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and he walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin that he caused Israel to commit.
34 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, and (AU)walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin which he made Israel sin.
34 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.
