1 From: Peter, an apostle of Jesus, the Messiah.

2 These people have been [specially] selected, and [their acceptance was] pre-planned by God the Father, and they were set apart through [the work of] the Holy Spirit. A New Birth To A Living Hope

3 God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, is to be praised for being so merciful as to have given us a new birth, which provides for us a hope of never ending life through the means of Jesus Christ's return from the dead.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

3 (O)Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who (P)according to His great mercy (Q)has caused us to be born again to (R)a living hope through the (S)resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

3 Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.(J) According to His great mercy,(K) He has given us a new birth(L) into a living hope(M) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead(N)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah! Because of his great mercy he has granted us a new birth, resulting in an immortal hope through the resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah, from the dead

4 Through Him we have an inheritance that cannot be corrupted or contaminated, and will never disappear; it is reserved in heaven for you.

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

4 to obtain an (T)inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and (U)will not fade away, (V)reserved in heaven for you,

4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable,(O) uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in heaven(P) for you.

4 and to an inheritance kept in heaven for you that can't be destroyed, corrupted, or changed.

5 Through God's power you are protected by [your] faith, so that you can expect to be saved in the end.

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

5 who are (W)protected by the power of God (X)through faith for (Y)a salvation ready (Z)to be revealed in the last time.

5 You are being protected by God’s power(Q) through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.(R)

5 Through faith you are being protected by God's power for a salvation that is ready to be revealed at the end of this era.

6 Because of this you can be very joyous, even though it is necessary for you to have suffered many trials for a little while.

6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

6 (AA)In this you greatly rejoice, even though now (AB)for a little while, (AC)if necessary, you have been distressed by (AD)various (c)trials,

6 You rejoice in this,(b) though now for a short time you have had to struggle in various trials(S)

6 You greatly rejoice in this, even though you have to suffer various kinds of trials for a little while,

7 But these will only test your faith, which is more valuable than gold which, though refined by fire, eventually perishes. Your faith, [however], will [endure and eventually] prove to be praiseworthy and honorable when Jesus returns.

7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

7 so that the (d)(AE)proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which (e)is perishable, (AF)even though tested by fire, (AG)may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at (AH)the revelation of Jesus Christ;

7 so that the genuineness of your faith(T)—more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire(U)—may result(V) in(c) praise, glory, and honor(W) at the revelation of Jesus Christ.(X)

7 so that your genuine faith, which is more valuable than gold that perishes when tested by fire, may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus, the Messiah, is revealed.

8 Although you have not seen Jesus, you [still] love Him and believe in Him, and this causes you to have an indescribable, glorious joy.

8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

8 and (AI)though you have not seen Him, you (AJ)love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and (f)full of glory,

8 You love Him,(Y) though you have not seen(Z) Him. And though not seeing Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice(AA) with inexpressible and glorious joy,

8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. And even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,

9 Your faith will [finally] bring about the salvation of your souls.

9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

9 obtaining as (AK)the outcome of your faith the salvation of (g)your souls.

9 because you are receiving the goal of your(d) faith, the salvation of your souls.(e)

9 because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10 The prophets [of old], who spoke of this salvation, asked about and searched diligently concerning the unearned favor [God provided] for you people.

10 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

10 (AL)As to this salvation, the prophets who (AM)prophesied of the (AN)grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets(AB) who prophesied about the grace that would come to you searched and carefully investigated.

10 Even the prophets, who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours, carefully researched and investigated this salvation.

11 They studied [their own prophecies] to learn what, or which, [person or] time the Holy Spirit in them pointed to, in predicting the sufferings of Christ and the glories yet to come.

11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

11 (h)seeking to know what person or time (AO)the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He (AP)predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories (i)to follow.

11 They inquired into what time or what circumstances(f) the Spirit of Christ(AC) within them was indicating when He testified in advance(AD) to the messianic sufferings(g)(AE) and the glories(AF) that would follow.(h)

11 They tried to find out what era or specific time the Spirit of the Messiah in them kept referring to when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow.

12 It was revealed to these prophets that you people, not they, were the ones being ministered to in the matters now being announced to you by those who preached the Gospel to you by the Holy Spirit, who was sent from heaven. [This message contained] things which angels would like to look into.

12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who (AQ)preached the gospel to you by (AR)the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which (AS)angels long to (j)look.

12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you(AG) by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.(AH) Angels desire to look into these things.

12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you in regard to the things that have now been announced to you by those who brought you the good news through the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. These are things that even the angels desire to look into.

Be Holy In All Your Conduct

13 So, gather your thoughts together for action, take control of yourselves and focus your hope completely on God's unearned favor, which will be brought to you by Jesus Christ when He returns.

13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

13 Therefore, (k)(AT)prepare your minds for action, (l)(AU)keep sober in spirit, fix your (AV)hope completely on the (AW)grace (m)to be brought to you at (AX)the revelation of Jesus Christ.

13 Therefore, with your minds ready for action,(i)(AI) be serious(AJ) and set your hope(AK) completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation(AL) of Jesus Christ.

13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep a clear head, and set your hope completely on the grace to be given you when Jesus, the Messiah, is revealed.

14 As obedient children, do not pattern your lives after the evil desires you formerly had when you were ignorant,

14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

14 As (n)(AY)obedient children, do not (o)(AZ)be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your (BA)ignorance,

14 As obedient children,(AM) do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance.

14 As obedient children, do not be shaped by the desires that used to influence you when you were ignorant.

15 but according to the Holy One, who called you [i.e., God], you people also should become holy [i.e., separated for God's service] in all your conduct,

15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

15 but (p)(BB)like the Holy One who called you, (q)(BC)be holy yourselves also (BD)in all your behavior;

15 But as the One who called you(AN) is holy,(AO) you also are to be holy in all your conduct;

15 Instead, be holy in every aspect of your life, just as the one who called you is holy.

16 because it is written [Lev. 11:44f], "You shall be holy [i.e., separated from sin] even as I am holy."

16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

16 because it is written, “(BE)You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

16 for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.(AP)(j)

16 For it is written, "You must be holy, because I am holy."

17 And if you call upon [God as] your Father, who judges each person's work impartially, [then] conduct yourselves during the time you spend in this life showing reverence [to God].

17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

17 If you (BF)address as Father the One who (BG)impartially (BH)judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves (BI)in fear during the time of your (BJ)stay on earth;

17 And if you address as Father the One who judges impartially(AQ) based on each one’s work,(AR) you are to conduct yourselves in fear(AS) during the time of your temporary residence.

17 If you call "Father" the one who judges everyone impartially according to what they have done, you must live in reverent fear as long as you are strangers in a strange land.

18 You [should] know that you were bought back [from Satan], from your useless way of life, inherited from your forefathers, not with such perishable things as silver and gold,

18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

18 knowing that you were not (r)(BK)redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your (BL)futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,

18 For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life(AT) inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold,(AU)

18 For you know that it was not with perishable things like silver or gold that you have been ransomed from the worthless way of life handed down to you by your ancestors,

19 but with [the] precious blood of Christ, who represents an unblemished lamb, without defect.

19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

19 but with precious (BM)blood, as of a (BN)lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

19 but with the precious blood of Christ,(AV) like that of a lamb(AW) without defect or blemish.

19 but with the precious blood of the Messiah, like that of a lamb without blemish or defect.

20 For Christ was previously known [by God, even] before the world was created, yet was not fully revealed for your benefit until [these] final times.

20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

20 For He was (BO)foreknown before (BP)the foundation of the world, but has (BQ)appeared (s)in these last times (BR)for the sake of you

20 He was chosen(k)(AX) before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the times(AY) for you

20 On the one hand, he was foreknown before the creation of the world, but on the other hand, he was revealed at the end of time for your sake.

21 [It is] through Christ, whom God raised from the dead and honored, that you people have become believers in God, so that your faith and hope could rest in God.

21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

21 who through Him are (BS)believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and (BT)gave Him glory, so that your faith and (BU)hope are in God.

21 who through Him are believers in God,(AZ) who raised Him from the dead(BA) and gave Him glory,(BB) so that your faith and hope are in God.

21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.

Love Each Other

22 [Since] you have purified your souls by [your] obedience to the truth [i.e., the Gospel message], which produces a genuine love for your brothers, [now] you should have this kind of fervent, heartfelt love for one another.

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

22 Since you have (BV)in obedience to the truth (BW)purified your souls for a (t)(BX)sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from (u)the heart,

22 By obedience to the truth,(l) having purified yourselves(m) for sincere love of the brothers, love one another(BC) earnestly(n) from a pure(o) heart,(BD)

22 Now that you have obeyed the truth and have purified your souls to love your brothers sincerely, you must love one another intensely and with a pure heart.

23 You have experienced new birth, not from seed that can decay, but from seed that cannot decay, through the living and enduring word of God.

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

23 for you have been (BY)born again (BZ)not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring (CA)word of God.

23 since you have been born again(BE)—not of perishable seed(BF) but of imperishable—through the living and enduring word of God.(BG)

23 For you have been born again, not by a seed that perishes but by one that cannot perish by the living and everlasting word of God.

24 For all forms of flesh are similar to grass, and all the splendor of [a person's] flesh is like the flower [which blossoms] from the grass. [But as with] grass, [a person's flesh] withers, and its flower [i.e., his splendor] falls off.

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

24 For,(CB)All flesh is like grass,And all its glory like the flower of grass.The grass withers,And the flower falls off,

24 ForAll flesh is like grass,and all its glory(BH) like a flower of the grass.The grass withers, and the flower falls,

24 For "All human life is like grass, and all its glory is like a flower in the grass. The grass dries up and the flower drops off,

25 But the word of the Lord continues to live on and on [forever]. And this word is the good news that was preached to you people.

25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

25 (CC)But the word of the Lord endures forever.”And this is (CD)the word which was (v)preached to you.

25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.(BI)(p)And this is the word that was preached as the gospel to you.

25 but the word of the Lord lasts forever." Now this word is the good news that was announced to you.
