Blessings Of Moses On Israel

1 This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave the Israelites before his death.(A)

1 Now this is the blessing with which Moses (A)the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death.

2 He said:The Lord came from Sinaiand appeared to them from Seir;He shone on them from Mount Paranand came with ten thousand holy ones,(a)with lightning(b) from His right hand(c) for them.(B)

2 He said,(B)The Lord came from Sinai,(C)And (a)dawned on them from Seir;(D)He shone forth from Mount Paran,And He came from (E)the (b)midst of ten thousand holy ones;(F)At His right hand there was (c)flashing lightning for them.

2 And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

2 He said: "The LORD came from Sinai. Rising from Seir upon us, he shone forth from Mount Paran, accompanied by a myriad of his holy ones, with flaming fire from his right hand for them.

2 He said,“The Lord came from Sinai,And dawned on them from Seir;He shone forth from Mount Paran,And He came from among ten thousand holy ones;At His right hand was a (b)flaming fire, a law, for them.

A Historical Review

3 Indeed He loves the people.(d)(C)All Your(e) holy ones(f) are in Your hand,and they assemble(g) at Your feet.Each receives Your words.

3 (G)Indeed, He loves (d)the people;(H)All (e)Your holy ones are in Your hand,(I)And they (f)followed in Your steps;Everyone receives of Your words.

3 Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.

3 Indeed, lover of people, all of his holy ones are in your control. They gather at your feet to do as you have instructed.

3 “Indeed, He loves His people;All (c)Your holy ones are in Your hand.They followed in Your steps;They accept and receive direction from You.

4 Moses gave us instruction,a possession for the assembly of Jacob.

4 (J)Moses charged us with a law,(K)A possession for the assembly of Jacob.

4 Moses commanded us a law, even the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob.

4 Moses commanded with the Law, an inheritance for the community of Jacob.

4 “Moses commanded us with a law,As a possession for the assembly of Jacob.

5 So He became King in Jeshurun(h)when the leaders of the people gatheredwith the tribes of Israel.

5 (L)And He was king in Jeshurun,When the heads of the people were gathered,The tribes of Israel together.

5 And he was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.

5 The LORD was king of Jeshurun when the leaders of the people all the tribes of Israel gathered together."

5 “The Lord was King in Jeshurun (Israel),When the heads of the people were gathered,The tribes of Israel together.

Blessing On Reuben

6 Let Reuben live and not diethough his people become few.(D)

6 (M)May Reuben live and not die,Nor his men be few.”

6 Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few.

6 "May Reuben live and not die, though his numbers are few."

6 “May [the tribe of] Reuben live and not die out,(d)But let his men be few.”

Blessing On Judah

7 He said this about Judah:Lord, hear Judah’s cry and bring him to his people.He fights for his cause(i) with his own hands,but may You be a help against his foes.

7 (N)And this regarding Judah; so he said,“Hear, O Lord, the voice of Judah,And bring him to his people.With his hands he contended for (g)them,And may You be a help against his adversaries.”

7 And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.

7 He declared this about Judah: "Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah and return him to his people. With his own strength he fights for himself, and you will be of assistance against his enemies."

7 And [Moses said] this of (e)Judah:“Hear, O Lord, the voice of Judah,And bring him to his people.With his hands he contended for them,And may You be a help against his enemies.”

Blessing On Levi

8 He said about Levi:Your Thummim and Urim belong to Your faithful one;(j)You tested him at Massahand contended with him at the waters of Meribah.(E)

8 Of Levi he said,“Let Your (O)Thummim and Your Urim belong to (h)Your (P)godly man,(Q)Whom You proved at Massah,With whom You contended at the waters of Meribah;

8 And of Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;

8 About Levi he said: "Let your Thummim and Urim be with the man to whom you showed gracious love, whom you tested at Massah and with whom you struggled at the waters of Meribah,

8 Of Levi he said,“Your (f)Thummim and Your Urim belong to Your godly man [Aaron],Whom You tested and proved at Massah,With whom You contended at the waters of Meribah;(A)

9 He said about his father and mother,“I do not regard them.”He disregarded his brothersand didn’t acknowledge his sons,for they kept Your wordand maintained Your covenant.(F)

9 (R)Who said of his father and his mother,‘I did not consider them’;And he did not acknowledge his brothers,Nor did he regard his own sons,For (S)they observed Your word,And kept Your covenant.

9 Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.

9 the one who told his mother and father, "I don't know them,' and who would neither acknowledge his brothers nor know his own children. For they kept your word and guarded your covenant.

9 Who (g)said of his father and mother,‘I did not consider them’;Nor did he acknowledge his brothers,Nor did he regard his own sons,For the priests observed Your word,And kept Your covenant.

10 They will teach Your ordinances to Jacoband Your instruction to Israel;(G)they will set incense before Youand whole burnt offerings on Your altar.

10 (T)They shall teach Your ordinances to Jacob,And Your law to Israel.(U)They shall put incense (i)before You,And (V)whole burnt offerings on Your altar.

10 They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.

10 They will teach your ordinances to Jacob, and your Law to Israel. They will offer incense as a pleasant aroma to you and a whole burnt offering upon your altar.

10 “The priests shall teach Your ordinances (judgments) to Jacob,And Your law to Israel.They shall put incense (h)before You,And whole burnt offerings on Your altar.

11 Lord, bless his possessions,(k)and accept the work of his hands.Smash the loins of his adversaries and enemies,so that they cannot rise again.

11 “O Lord, bless his substance,And accept the work of his hands;Shatter the loins of those who rise up against him,And those who hate him, so that they will not rise again.”

11 Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands: smite through the loins of them that rise against him, and of them that hate him, that they rise not again.

11 LORD, bless his substance and approve the work that he undertakes. Shatter the legs of those who oppose against him; may those who hate him stand no more."

11 “O Lord, bless Levi’s substance (ability),And accept and take pleasure in the work of his hands;Crush and shatter the loins of those who rise up against him,And of those who hate him, so that they do not rise again.”

Blessing On Benjamin

12 He said about Benjamin:The Lord’s beloved rests(l) securely on Him.He(m) shields him all day long,and he rests on His shoulders.(n)

12 Of Benjamin he said,(W)May the beloved of the Lord dwell in security by Him,(X)Who shields him all the day,(Y)And he dwells between His shoulders.”

12 And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the LORD shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

12 About Benjamin he said: "The beloved of the LORD will live confidently, the Most High protecting him all day long, and resting in his bosom."

12 Of Benjamin he said,“May the beloved of the Lord (i)dwell in safety by Him;He shields and covers him all the day long,And he dwells between His shoulders.”

Blessing On Joseph

13 He said about Joseph:May his land be blessed by the Lordwith the dew of heaven’s bountyand the watery depths that lie beneath;(H)

13 Of Joseph he said,(Z)Blessed of the Lord be his land,With the choice things of heaven, with the dew,And from the deep lying beneath,

13 And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath,

13 About Joseph he said: "May the blessing of the LORD be on his land: dew from the choicest of the heavens, and from the depths beneath;

13 And of (j)Joseph he said,“Blessed by the Lord be his land,With the precious things of heaven, with the dew,And from the deep water that lies beneath,

14 with the bountiful harvest from the sunand the abundant yield of the seasons;

14 And with the choice yield of the sun,And with the choice produce of the months.

14 And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,

14 from the choicest products of the sun, the rich fruit of the harvest moon,

14 With the precious fruits of the sun,And with the precious produce of the months.

15 with the best products of the ancient mountainsand the bounty of the eternal hills;

15 “And with the (j)best things of (AA)the ancient mountains,And with the choice things of the everlasting hills,

15 And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills,

15 the choicest portion of the eternal mountains, and the best of the everlasting hills;

15 “With the best things of the ancient mountains,And with the precious things of the everlasting hills,

16 with the choice gifts of the landand everything in it;and with the favor of Himwho appeared(o) in the burning bush.(I)May these rest on the head of Joseph,on the crown of the prince of his brothers.(J)

16 And with the choice things of the earth and its fullness,And the favor (AB)of Him who dwelt in the bush.Let it come to the head of Joseph,And to the crown of the head of the one distinguished among his brothers.

16 And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.

16 from the choicest of the earth and its fullness, and the favor of the one who lived in the burning bush. May blessing rest on Joseph's head, and on the crown of the head of the one set apart from his brothers.

16 With the precious things of the earth and its fullness,And the favor and goodwill of Him who dwelt in the bush.Let these blessings come upon the head of Joseph,And upon the crown of the head of him who was distinguished [as a prince] among his brothers.(B)

17 His firstborn bull has(p) splendor,and horns like(q) those of a wild ox;he gores all the peoples with themto the ends of the earth.Such are the ten thousands of Ephraim,and such are the thousands of Manasseh.

17 “As the firstborn of his ox, majesty is his,And his horns are the horns of (AC)the wild ox;With them he will (AD)push the peoples,All (k)at once, to the ends of the earth.And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim,And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”

17 His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

17 May the firstborn of his bull be honorable to him, and may his horns be those of a wild ox. With them may he push people all together, to the ends of the earth. These are the myriads of Ephraim and the thousands of Manasseh."

17 “His majesty is like a firstborn young bull,And his horns like the horns of the wild ox;With them he will gore the peoples,All of them together, to the ends of the earth.And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim,And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”

Blessing On Zebulun And Issachar

18 He said about Zebulun:Rejoice, Zebulun, in your journeys,and Issachar, in your tents.

18 (AE)Of Zebulun he said,“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going forth,And, Issachar, in your tents.

18 And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and, Issachar, in thy tents.

18 About Zebulun he said: "Zebulun, rejoice as you go out and Issachar, in being inside your tents.

18 Of Zebulun he said,(k)Rejoice, Zebulun, in your interests abroad,And, Issachar, in your tents [at home].

19 They summon the peoples to a mountain;there they offer acceptable sacrifices.For they draw from the wealth of the seasand the hidden treasures of the sand.(K)

19 (AF)They will call peoples to the mountain;There they will offer (AG)righteous sacrifices;For they will (l)draw out (AH)the abundance of the seas,And the hidden treasures of the sand.”

19 They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand.

19 They will call the nations to the mountain, and there they will offer righteous sacrifices, for they'll draw from the abundance of the sea and from the hidden treasures of the sand."

19 “They will call the peoples to the mountain (Mount Carmel);There they will offer sacrifices of righteousness;For they will draw out the abundance of the seas,And the hidden treasures of the sand.”

Blessing On Gad

20 He said about Gad:The one who enlarges Gad’s territorywill be blessed.He lies down like a lionand tears off an arm or even a head.(L)

20 (AI)Of Gad he said,“Blessed is the one who enlarges Gad;He lies down (AJ)as a (m)lion,And tears the arm, also the crown of the head.

20 And of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad: he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head.

20 About Gad he said: "Blessed be the one who enlarges Gad! Like a roaring lion, he crouches, tearing arm and scalp.

20 Of Gad he said,“Blessed is the one who enlarges Gad;He lurks like a lioness,And tears the arm and the crown of the head.

21 He chose the best part for himself,because a ruler’s portion was assigned there for him.He came with the leaders of the people;he carried out the Lord’s justiceand His ordinances for Israel.(M)

21 (AK)Then he (n)provided the first part for himself,(AL)For there the ruler’s portion was (o)reserved;(AM)And he came with the leaders of the people;(AN)He executed the justice of the Lord,And His ordinances with Israel.”

21 And he provided the first part for himself, because there, in a portion of the lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments with Israel.

21 He chose the best part for himself, when the leader's portion was assigned. He came at the head of the people, carrying out the LORD'S justice and his ordinances concerning Israel."

21 “He selected the best [land] for himself,For there the leader’s portion was reserved;Yet he came with the leaders of the people;He carried out the justice (righteous will) of the Lord,And His ordinances (judgments) with Israel.”(C)

Blessing On Dan

22 He said about Dan:Dan is a young lion,leaping out of Bashan.(N)

22 (AO)Of Dan he said,“Dan is (AP)a lion’s whelp,That leaps forth from Bashan.”

22 And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion's whelp: he shall leap from Bashan.

22 About Dan he said: "Dan is a lion's cub, leaping forth from Bashan."

22 Of Dan he said,“Dan is a lion’s cub,That leaps forth from Bashan.”

Blessing On Naphtali

23 He said about Naphtali:Naphtali, enjoying approval,full of the Lord’s blessing,take(r) possession to the west and the south.

23 Of Naphtali he said,(AQ)O Naphtali, satisfied with favor,And full of the blessing of the Lord,Take possession of the sea and the south.”

23 And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of the LORD: possess thou the west and the south.

23 About Naphtali he said: "Naphtali, full of favor and the LORD's blessing, take possession of the west and south."

23 Of Naphtali he said,“O Naphtali, satisfied with favor,And full of the blessing of the Lord,Take possession of the sea [of Galilee] and the south.”

Blessing On Asher

24 He said about Asher:May Asher(s) be the most blessed of the sons;may he be the most favored among his brothersand dip his foot in olive oil.(t)(O)

24 (AR)Of Asher he said,“More blessed than sons is Asher;May he be favored by his brothers,(AS)And may he dip his foot in oil.

24 And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil.

24 About Asher he said: "May Asher be blessed, along with his descendants, may his brothers be pleased with him, may he dip his feet in oil,

24 Of Asher he said,“More blessed than sons is Asher;May he be favored by his brothers,And may he dip his foot in oil.

25 May the bolts of your gate be iron and bronze,and your strength last as long as you live.

25 (AT)Your locks will be iron and bronze,(AU)And according to your days, so will your leisurely walk be.

25 Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

25 may your bolts be made of iron and bronze, and may your strength be sufficient for each day you live."

25 “Your strongholds will be iron and bronze,And as your days are, so will your strength, your rest and security be.

General Praise And Blessing

26 There is none like the God of Jeshurun,(u)who rides the heavens to your aid,the clouds in His majesty.(P)

26 (AV)There is none like the God of (p)Jeshurun,(AW)Who rides the heavens (q)to your help,And through the skies in His majesty.

26 There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.

26 "There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens with its lofty clouds to help you.

26 “There is none like the God of Jeshurun (Israel),Who rides the heavens to your help,And through the skies in His majestic glory.

27 The God of old is your dwelling place,(Q)and underneath are the everlasting arms.He drives out the enemy before youand commands, “Destroy!”

27 (AX)The eternal God is a (r)dwelling place,(AY)And underneath are the everlasting arms;(AZ)And He drove out the enemy from before you,(BA)And said, ‘Destroy!’

27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

27 The God of old is a dwelling place, with everlasting arms underneath. He drove out your enemies before you and said: "Destroy them!'

27 “The eternal God is your refuge and dwelling place,And underneath are the everlasting arms;He drove out the enemy from before you,And said, ‘Destroy!’

28 So Israel dwells securely;Jacob lives untroubled(v)(R)in a land of grain and new wine;even his skies drip with dew.(S)

28 (BB)So Israel dwells in security,(BC)The fountain of Jacob secluded,(BD)In a land of grain and new wine;(BE)His heavens also drop down dew.

28 Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.

28 So Israel lives in confidence, isolated as the fountain of Jacob in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens rain down dew.

28 “So Israel dwells in safety and security,The fountain of Jacob alone and secluded,In a land of grain and new wine;His heavens also drop down dew.

29 How happy you are, Israel!Who is like you,a people saved by the Lord?He is the shield that protects you,the sword you boast in.Your enemies will cringe before you,(T)and you will tread on their backs.(w)(U)

29 (BF)Blessed are you, O Israel;(BG)Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord,(BH)Who is the shield of your help(BI)And the sword of your majesty!(BJ)So your enemies will cringe before you,(BK)And you will tread upon their high places.”

29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

29 How blessed are you, Israel! Who can be like you, a people delivered by the LORD, your shield of help and your finely crafted sword. May your enemies cower before you. You will tread down their high places."

29 “Happy and blessed are you, O Israel;Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord,The Shield of your help,And the Sword of your majesty!Your enemies will cringe before you,And you will tread on their high places [tramping down their idolatrous altars].”
