1 Do not rejoice, O Israel, with exultation, like the peoples, for thou hast gone away unchastely from beside thy God, - thou hast loved a present, upon all the threshing-floors of corn!

1 Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.
1 Israel, do not rejoice jubilantly as the nations do,(A)for you have acted promiscuously,(B) leaving your God.You have loved the wages of a prostituteon every grain-threshing floor.(C)
1 "Don't celebrate, Israel, like other nations would rejoice, because you left your God by committing fornication, loving the profit you gained on all of the threshing floors.
3 They shall not dwell in the land of Yahweh, but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and, in Assyria - that which is unclean, shall they eat.
3 They will not remain in (D)the Lord’s land,But Ephraim will return to (E)Egypt,And in (F)Assyria they will eat (G)unclean food.
3 They shall not dwell in the LORD'S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.
3 They will not stay in the land of the Lord.Instead, Ephraim will return to Egypt,(E)and they will eat unclean food(F) in Assyria.(G)

4 They will not pour out drink offerings of (H)wine to the Lord,(I)Their sacrifices will not please Him.Their bread will (f)be like (g)mourners’ bread;All who eat of it will be (J)defiled,For their bread will be for (h)themselves alone;It will not enter the house of the Lord.
4 They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.
4 They will not pour outtheir wine offerings to the Lord,(H)and their sacrifices will not please Him.Their food will be like the bread of mourners;all who eat it become defiled.(I)For their bread will be for their appetites alone;it will not enter the house of the Lord.
4 They won't present wine offerings to the LORD, nor will they please him. Their sacrifices will seem like food for mourners everyone who eats them will become unclean; none of them will enter the Temple of the LORD.
5 What will ye do, for the day of appointed meeting? and in the day of the festival of Yahweh?
5 (K)What will you do on the day of the appointed festivalAnd on the day of the (L)feast of the Lord?
5 What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?
5 "What will you do on the designated holiday, when the LORD's festival comes?
6 For, though they have gone from destruction, yet, Egypt, shall gather them, Memphis, shall bury them, - as for their silver favorites! thistles, shall possess them, thorns in their tents.
6 For behold, they will go because of destruction;Egypt will gather them up, (M)Memphis will bury them.Weeds will take over their treasures of silver;(N)Thorns will be in their tents.
6 For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.
6 For even if they flee from devastation,Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them.(L)Thistles will take possession of their precious silver;thorns will invade their tents.(M)
6 Look! They have gone away because of the destruction Egypt will gather them up, and Memphis will bury them. Weeds will overgrow their inheritance, and thorns will grow in their tents.
7 Come are the days of visitation, come are the days of recompense, Let Israel know! The prophet is foolish, the man of the spirit doth rave, because of the greatness of thine iniquity, therefore great is the prosecution.
7 The days of (O)punishment have come,The days of (P)retribution have come;(i)Let Israel know this!The prophet is a (Q)fool,The (j)inspired man is (R)demented,Because of the grossness of your (S)iniquity,And because your hostility is so great.
7 The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.
7 The days of punishment have come;(N)the days of retribution have come.(O)Let Israel recognize it!The prophet is a fool,(P)and the inspired man is insane,(Q)because of the magnitudeof your guilt and hostility.(R)
7 The time for your judgment has now come; payday is here and Israel knows it. The prophet is a fool, and the spiritual man is insane. Because of your great sin, the hatred against you is great.
8 The watchman of Ephraim, should have been with my God: As for the prophet, the snare of the fowler, is on all his ways, a prosecution awaiteth him , in the house of his God.
8 Ephraim was a watchman with my God, a prophet;Yet the snare of a bird catcher is in all his ways,And there is only hostility in the house of his God.
8 The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.
8 Ephraim’s watchman is with my God.The prophet encounters a fowler’s snareon all his ways.(S)Hostility is in the house of his God!
8 While Ephraim stands watch with my God, the prophet has snares set that will trap his ways, and hostility lodges in the Temple of his God.
9 They have deeply corrupted themselves, like the days of Gibeah: he will call to mind their iniquity, he will punish their sins.

10 I found Israel like (W)grapes in the wilderness;I saw your forefathers as the (X)earliest fruit on the fig tree in its first season.But they came to (Y)Baal-peor and devoted themselves to (l)(Z)shame,And they became as (AA)detestable as that which they loved.
10 I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.

11 As for Ephraim! like a bird, did their glory, fly away, - no birth, and none with child, no conception.

12 Yea, though they rear their children, yet will I make them childless, till there be no human being, - for it is, nothing less than woe, to them when I depart from them!

13 Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.

14 Give them, O Yahweh - what wilt thou give? Give them, a miscarrying womb, and breasts dried up.
14 Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

15 All their wickedness, is in Gilgal, yea, there, have I come to hate them, For the wickedness of their doings - out of my house, will I drive them forth, - no more will I love them, all their rulers, are unruly.
15 All their evil is at (AF)Gilgal;Indeed, I came to hate them there!Because of the (AG)wickedness of their deedsI will drive them out of My house!I will love them no more;All their princes are (AH)rebels.

16 Smitten is Ephraim, their root, hath dried up, fruit, shall they not bear, - yea, though they do bring forth, yet will I slay the darlings of their womb.
