2 Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.
2 “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘(A)Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book.
2 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: “Write down on a scroll all the words that I have spoken to you,(A)
2 "This is what the LORD God of Israel says: "Write all the words that I've spoken to you in a book.
3 For lo, the time cometh, sayeth the LORD, that I will bring again the prisoners of my people of Israel and Judah, sayeth the LORD: For I will restore them unto the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall have it in possession."
3 For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
3 For behold, (B)days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will (C)restore the (a)fortunes of My people (D)Israel and Judah.’ The Lord says, ‘I will also (E)bring them back to the land that I gave to their forefathers and they shall possess it.’”
3 for the days are certainly coming”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“when I will restore the fortunes(a) of My people Israel and Judah”(B)—the Lord’s declaration. “I will restore them to the land I gave to their ancestors and they will possess it.”
3 Indeed, the time will come,' declares the LORD, "when I'll restore the security of my people Israel and Judah,' says the LORD. "I'll bring them back to the land that I gave to their ancestors, and they'll possess it.'"
4 Again, these words spake the LORD, concerning Israel and Judah,
4 And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.
4 Now these are the words which the Lord spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah:
4 These are the words the Lord spoke to Israel and Judah.
4 These are the words that the LORD spoke about Israel and Judah:
5 "Thus sayeth the LORD: We hear a terrible cry, fear and disquietness.
5 For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.
5 Yes, this is what the Lord says:We have heard a cry of terror,of dread—there is no peace.
5 "Indeed, this is what the LORD says: "We have heard a sound of terror and of fear, and there is no peace.
6 For what else doth this signify, that I see? Namely, that all strong men smite every man his hand upon his loins, as a woman in the pain of her travail. Who ever saw a man travail with child? Enquire thereafter, and see. Yea, all their faces are marvelous pale.
6 Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
6 ‘Ask now, and seeIf a male can give birth. Why do I see every manWith his hands on his loins, (G)as a woman in childbirth? And why have all faces turned pale?
6 Ask and seewhether a male can give birth. Why then do I see every manwith his hands on his stomach like a woman in laborand every face turned pale?
6 Ask about this and think about it Can a man give birth to a child? Why then do I see every strong man with his hands on his thighs like a woman giving birth, and all their faces have turned pale?
7 Alas for this day, which is so dreadful, that none may be likened unto it: and alas for the time of Jacob's trouble, from the which he shall yet be delivered.
7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.
7 ‘Alas! for that (H)day is great,There is (I)none like it;And it is the time of Jacob’s (J)distress,But he will be (K)saved from it.
7 How awful that day will be!(C)There will be none like it!(D)It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be delivered out of it.
7 Oh how terrible! That time will be worse than any like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be rescued from it.
8 For in that day, sayeth the LORD, I will take his yoke from off thy neck, and break thy bonds. They shall no more serve strange gods under him,
8 For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:
8 ‘It shall come about on that day,’ declares the Lord of hosts, ‘that I will (L)break his yoke from off (c)their neck and will tear off (d)their (M)bonds; and strangers will no longer (N)make (e)them their slaves.
8 “On that day”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts—“I will break his yoke from your neck(E) and tear off your chains(F) so strangers will never again enslave him.(G)
8 On that day,' declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "I'll break the yoke from your neck and will tear off your restraints. Foreigners will no longer make you serve them.
9 but they shall do service unto God their LORD, and to David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
9 Rather, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
10 "And as for thee, O my servant Jacob, fear not, sayeth the LORD; and be not afraid, O Israel. For lo, I will help thee also from far, and thy seed from the land of their captivity. And Jacob shall turn again, he shall be in rest, and have a prosperous life, and no man shall make him afraid.
10 Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
10 ‘(P)Fear not, O Jacob My servant,’ declares the Lord,‘And do not be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you (Q)from afarAnd your (f)offspring from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and will be (R)quiet and at ease,And (S)no one will make him afraid.
10 As for you, My servant Jacob,(I)do not be afraid—this is the Lord’s declaration—and do not be dismayed, Israel, for without fail I will save you from far away, your descendants, from the land of their captivity!Jacob will return and have calm and quietwith no one to frighten him.(J)
10 "My servant Jacob, don't be afraid,' declares the LORD, "and Israel, don't be dismayed. For I'll deliver you from a distant place and your descendants from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return. He will be undisturbed and secure, and no one will cause him to fear.
11 For I am with thee, to help thee, sayeth the LORD. And though I shall destroy all the people among whom I have scattered thee, yet will I not destroy thee, but correct thee, and that with discretion. For I know, that thou art in no wise without fault.
11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
11 ‘For (T)I am with you,’ declares the Lord, ‘to save you;For I will (U)destroy completely all the nations where I have scattered you,Only I will (V)not destroy you completely. But I will (W)chasten you justlyAnd will by no means leave you unpunished.’
11 For I will be with you—this is the Lord’s declaration—to save you!(K)I will bring destruction on all the nationswhere I have scattered you;however, I will not bring destruction on you.I will discipline you justly, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.(L)
11 For I'll be with you to save you,' declares the LORD. "For I'll put an end to all the nations where I scattered you; but I won't make an end of you. I'll discipline you justly, but I certainly won't leave you unpunished.'
Healing Zion's Wounds
14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee, and care nothing for thee. For I have given thee a cruel stroke, and chastened thee roughly: and that for the multitude of thy misdeeds, for thy sins have had the overhand.
14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.
14 ‘All your (Z)lovers have forgotten you,They do not seek you;For I have (AA)wounded you with the wound of an enemy,With the (AB)punishment of a (AC)cruel one,Because your (AD)iniquity is greatAnd your (AE)sins are numerous.
14 All your lovers have forgotten you;they no longer look for you,for I have struck you as an enemy would, with the discipline(O) of someone cruel,(P)because of your enormous guiltand your innumerable sins.
14 All your lovers have forgotten you; they don't seek you. Indeed, I've struck you down with the blow of an enemy, with the punishment of a cruel foe because your wickedness is great, and your sins are numerous.
15 Why makest thou moan for thy harm? I myself have pity of thy sorrow; but for the multitude of thy misdeeds and sins I have done this unto thee.
15 Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.
15 ‘Why do you cry out over your injury?Your pain is incurable.Because your iniquity is greatAnd your sins are numerous,I have done these things to you.
15 Why do you cry out about your injury?Your pain has no cure!I have done these things to youbecause of your enormous guiltand your innumerable sins.
15 Why do you cry out because of your injury? Your wound won't heal. Because your wickedness is severe, and your sins are numerous, I've done all these things to you.
16 And therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured, and all thine enemies shall be led into captivity. All they that make thee waste, shall be wasted themselves: and all those that rob thee, will I make also to be robbed.
16 Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.
16 ‘Therefore all who (AF)devour you will be devoured; And all your adversaries, every one of them, (AG)will go into captivity; And those who plunder you will be for plunder,And all who prey upon you I will give for prey.
16 Nevertheless, all who devoured you will be devoured,(Q)and all your adversaries—all of them—will go off into exile. Those who plunder you will be plundered, and all who raid you will be raided.
16 In addition, all who devour you will be devoured, and all your oppressors all of them will go into captivity. Those who plunder you will become plunder, and all who spoil you will become spoil.
17 For I will give thee thy health again and make thy wounds whole, sayeth the LORD: because they reviled thee, as one cast away and despised, O Zion.
17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.
17 ‘For I will (g)restore you to (h)(AH)healthAnd I will heal you of your wounds,’ declares the Lord,‘Because they have called you an (AI)outcast, saying:“It is Zion; no one (i)cares for her.”’
17 But I will bring you health(R)and will heal you of your wounds—this is the Lord’s declaration—for they call you Outcast,Zion whom no one cares about.
17 Indeed, I'll bring you healing, and I'll heal you of your wounds,' declares the LORD, "because they have called you an outcast and have said, "It is Zion, no one cares for her!"'"
Restoration Of The Land
18 "For thus sayeth the LORD: Behold, I will set up Jacob's tents again, and defend his dwelling place. The city shall be builded in her old estate, and their houses shall have their right foundation.
18 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob's tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.
18 “Thus says the Lord,‘Behold, I will (AJ)restore the (j)fortunes of the tents of JacobAnd (AK)have compassion on his dwelling places; And the (AL)city will be rebuilt on its ruin,And the (AM)palace will stand on its rightful place.

18 "This is what the LORD says: "I'm going to restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings. A city will be rebuilt on its ruins and a palace will sit on its rightful place.
19 And out of them shall go thanksgiving, and the voice of joy. I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish: I shall endue them with honour, and no man shall subdue them.
19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
19 ‘From them will proceed (AN)thanksgivingAnd the voice of those who (k)(AO)celebrate; And I will (AP)multiply them and they will not be diminished;I will also (AQ)honor them and they will not be insignificant.
19 Thanksgiving will come out of them,a sound of celebration.I will multiply them, and they will not decrease;(T)I will honor them, and they will not be insignificant.
19 Thanksgiving and the sounds of laughter will come out of them. I'll cause them to increase in numbers and not decrease. I'll honor them and not make them insignificant.
20 Their children shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall continue in my sight. And all those that vex them, will I visit.
20 Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.
20 ‘(l)Their children also will be as formerly,And (m)their congregation shall be (AR)established before Me;And I will punish all (n)their oppressors.
20 His children will be as in past days;his congregation will be established in My presence.I will punish all his oppressors.(U)
20 Their children will be as they were before, and their congregation will be established before me. I'll punish all who oppress them.
21 A captain also shall come of them, and a prince shall spring out from the midst of them: him will I challenge to myself, and he shall come unto me. For what is he, that giveth over his heart to come unto me, sayeth the LORD?
21 And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.
21 ‘(o)Their (AS)leader shall be one of them,And (p)their ruler shall come forth from (q)their midst; And I will (AT)bring him near and he shall approach Me;For (r)who would dare to risk his life to (AU)approach Me?’ declares the Lord.
21 Jacob’s leader will be one of them;his ruler will issue from him.I will invite him to Me, and he will approach Me,(V)for who would otherwise risk his life to approach Me?This is the Lord’s declaration.
21 Their leader will be one of their own, and their ruler will come from among them. I'll bring him near, and he will approach me, for who would otherwise dare to approach me?' declares the LORD.
