A Message Concerning Moab
1 The Lord God of Israel who rules over all spoke about Moab. "Sure to be judged is Nebo! Indeed, it will be destroyed! Kiriathaim will suffer disgrace. It will be captured! Its fortress will suffer disgrace. It will be torn down!
1 Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.
1 Concerning (A)Moab. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“Woe to (B)Nebo, for it has been destroyed;(C)Kiriathaim has been put to shame, it has been captured; The lofty stronghold has been put to shame and (a)shattered.
1 About Moab,(A) this is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says:Woe to Nebo,(B) because it is about to be destroyed;Kiriathaim will be put to shame;(C) it will be taken captive. The fortress will be put to shame and dismayed!
1 To Moab: This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, says: "How terrible for Nebo, for it's laid waste. Kiriathaim is put to shame, it's captured. The fortress is put to shame, it's shattered.
2 People will not praise Moab any more. The enemy will capture Heshbon and plot how to destroy Moab, saying, 'Come, let's put an end to that nation!' City of Madmen, you will also be destroyed. A destructive army will march against you.
2 There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
2 “There is praise for Moab no longer; In (D)Heshbon they have devised calamity against her:‘Come and let us cut her off from being a nation!’You too, (b)Madmen, will be silenced; The sword will follow after you.
2 There is no longer praise for Moab;they plan harm against her in Heshbon:(D)Come, let’s cut her off from nationhood. Also, Madmen,(a) you will be silenced;the sword will pursue you.
2 The pride of Moab is no more. In Heshbon they plotted evil against her: "Come and let's eliminate her as a nation.' Madmen will also be silenced, and the sword will pursue you.
4 "Moab will be crushed. Her children will cry out in distress.
4 Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
4 “Moab is broken,Her little ones have sounded out a cry of distress.
4 Moab will be shattered;her little ones will cry out.
4 Moab will be destroyed; her little ones will cry out.
5 Indeed they will climb the slopes of Luhith, weeping continually as they go. For on the road down to Horonaim they will hear the cries of distress over the destruction.
5 For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.
5 “For by the ascent of (F)LuhithThey will ascend with continual weeping; For at the descent of HoronaimThey have heard the (c)anguished cry of destruction.
5 For on the Ascent to Luhiththey will be weeping continually,(b)and on the descent to Horonaimwill be heard cries of distress over the destruction:(F)
5 Indeed, at the ascent of Luhith people will go up with bitter weeping. At the descent of Horonaim the anguished cries over the destruction will be heard.
7 "Moab, you trust in the things you do and in your riches. So you too will be conquered. Your god Chemosh will go into exile along with his priests and his officials.
7 For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.
7 “For because of your (H)trust in your own achievements and treasures,Even you yourself will be captured; And (I)Chemosh will go off into exileTogether with his priests and his princes.
7 Because you trust in your works(d) and treasures, you will be captured also.Chemosh(H) will go into exilewith his priests and officials.
7 But, because you trust in your deeds and your riches, you will also be captured. Chemosh will go out into exile, along with his priests and officials.
8 The destroyer will come against every town. Not one town will escape. The towns in the valley will be destroyed. The cities on the high plain will be laid waste. I, the Lord, have spoken!
8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken.
8 “A destroyer will come to every city,So that no city will escape; The valley also will be ruinedAnd the (J)plateau will be destroyed,As the Lord has said.
8 The destroyer will move against every town;not one town will escape. The valley will perish, and the plain will be annihilated,(I)as the Lord has said.
8 A destroyer will come to every town and no town will escape. The valley will be ruined and the plateau destroyed." This is what the LORD has said!
9 Set up a gravestone for Moab, for it will certainly be laid in ruins! Its cities will be laid waste and become uninhabited."
9 Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be desolate, without any to dwell therein.
9 “Give (d)(K)wings to Moab,For she will (e)flee away; And her cities will become a (L)desolation,Without inhabitants in them.
9 Make Moab a salt marsh,(e)(J)for she will run away;(f)her towns will become a desolation, without inhabitant.
9 "Put salt on Moab for she will surely fall. Her towns will become desolate places, without any inhabitants in them.
10 A curse on anyone who is lax in doing the Lord's work! A curse on anyone who keeps from carrying out his destruction!
10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
10 “(M)Cursed be the one who does the Lord’s work (N)negligently,And cursed be the one who restrains his (O)sword from blood.
10 The one who doesthe Lord’s business deceitfully(g) is cursed,(K)and the one who withholdshis sword from bloodshed is cursed.
10 Cursed is the one who is slack in doing the LORD's work. Cursed is the one who holds back his sword from shedding blood.
The Cities Of Moab Are Destroyed
11 "From its earliest days Moab has lived undisturbed. It has never been taken into exile. Its people are like wine allowed to settle undisturbed on its dregs, never poured out from one jar to another. They are like wine which tastes like it always did, whose aroma has remained unchanged.
11 Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.
11 “Moab has been (P)at ease since his youth; He has also been (Q)undisturbed, like wine on (f)its dregs,And he has not been (R)emptied from vessel to vessel,Nor has he gone into exile. Therefore (g)he retains his flavor,And his aroma has not changed.
11 Moab has been left quiet since his youth, settled like wine on its dregs.(L)He hasn’t been poured from one container to anotheror gone into exile. So his taste has remained the same, and his aroma hasn’t changed.
11 Moab has been at ease from his youth. He has been undisturbed like wine on its dregs and not poured from vessel to vessel. He has not gone into exile. Therefore, his flavor has remained, and his aroma has not changed.
12 But the time is coming when I will send men against Moab who will empty it out. They will empty the towns of their people, then will lay those towns in ruins. I, the Lord, affirm it!
12 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.
12 Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will send to him those who tip vessels, and they will tip him over, and they will empty his vessels and shatter (h)his jars.
12 Therefore look, the days are coming—this is the Lord’s declaration—when I will send those to him, who will pour him out. They will empty his containersand smash his jars.
12 "Therefore, look, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I'll send those who tip over vessels to him, and they'll tip him over. They'll empty his vessels and shatter his jars.
13 The people of Moab will be disappointed by their god Chemosh. They will be as disappointed as the people of Israel were when they put their trust in the calf god at Bethel.
13 And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
13 And Moab will be (S)ashamed of (T)Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of (U)Bethel, their confidence.
13 Moab will be put to shame because of Chemosh, just as the house of Israel was put to shamebecause of Bethel(M) that they trusted in.
13 Moab will be ashamed because of Chemosh just as the house of Israel was ashamed because of Bethel, their confidence.
15 Moab will be destroyed. Its towns will be invaded. Its finest young men will be slaughtered. I, the King, the Lord who rules over all, affirm it!
15 Moab is spoiled, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.
15 “Moab has been destroyed and (i)men have gone up to (j)his cities; His choicest (k)(W)young men have also gone down to the slaughter,”Declares the (X)King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.
15 The destroyer of Moab and its townshas come up,(h)and the best of its young menhave gone down to slaughter. This is the King’s declaration;Yahweh of Hosts is His name.(N)
15 Moab will be destroyed, and the enemy will come up against her cities. Her finest young men will go down to slaughter," declares the King, whose name is the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.
17 Mourn for that nation, all you nations living around it, all of you nations that know of its fame. Mourn and say, 'Alas, its powerful influence has been broken! Its glory and power have been done away!'
17 All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!
17 “Mourn for him, all you who live around him,Even all of you who know his name;Say, ‘How has the mighty (l)(Z)scepter been broken,A staff of splendor!’
17 Mourn for him, all you surrounding nations, everyone who knows his name.Say: How the mighty scepter(O) is shattered, the glorious staff!
17 Mourn for him, all who live around him, and all who know his name. Say, "Oh how the mighty rod is broken, the glorious staff.'
18 Come down from your place of honor; sit on the dry ground, you who live in Dibon. For the one who will destroy Moab will attack you; he will destroy your fortifications.
18 Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds.
18 “(AA)Come down from your gloryAnd sit (m)on the parched ground,O (AB)daughter dwelling in (AC)Dibon,For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you,He has ruined your strongholds.
18 Come down from glory; sit on parched ground, resident of the daughter of Dibon,(P)for the destroyer of Moab has come against you;he has destroyed your fortresses.
18 "Come down from glory, and sit on parched ground, O woman who lives in Dibon, for the destroyer of Moab will come up against you to destroy you. He will destroy your strongholds.
19 You who live in Aroer, stand by the road and watch. Question the man who is fleeing and the woman who is escaping. Ask them, 'What has happened?'
19 O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?
19 “Stand by the road and keep watch,O inhabitant of (AD)Aroer;(AE)Ask him who flees and her who escapesAnd say, ‘What has happened?’
19 Stand by the highway and look, resident of Aroer!(Q)Ask him who is fleeing or her who is escaping:(R)What happened?
19 Stand by the road and keep watch, O woman who lives in Aroer. Ask the man who flees and the woman who escapes. Say, "What happened'?
20 They will answer, 'Moab is disgraced, for it has fallen! Wail and cry out in mourning! Announce along the Arnon River that Moab has been destroyed.'
20 Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: howl and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled,
20 “Moab has been put to shame, for it has been (n)shattered.Wail and cry out;Declare by the (AF)ArnonThat Moab has been destroyed.
20 Moab is put to shame, indeed dismayed.Wail and cry out!Declare by the Arnonthat Moab is destroyed.
20 Moab will be put to shame, for it will be destroyed. Wail and cry out. Announce by the Arnon that Moab is destroyed.
Moab Will Be Humbled
26 "Moab has vaunted itself against me. So make him drunk with the wine of my wrath until he splashes around in his own vomit, until others treat him as a laughingstock.
26 Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.
26 “(AM)Make him drunk, for he has (o)become (AN)arrogant toward the Lord; so Moab will (p)wallow in his vomit, and he also will become a laughingstock.
26 “Make him drunk, because he has exalted himself against the Lord.(W) Moab will wallow in his own vomit, and he will also become a laughingstock.
26 "Make him drunk for he has exalted himself against the LORD. Moab will wallow in his vomit, and he will be the object of mocking.
27 For did not you people of Moab laugh at the people of Israel? Did you think that they were nothing but thieves, that you shook your head in contempt every time you talked about them?
27 For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.
27 Now was not Israel a (AO)laughingstock to you? Or was he (q)(AP)caught among thieves? For each time you speak about him you (AQ)shake your head in scorn.
27 Wasn’t Israel a laughingstock to you?(X) Was he ever found among thieves?(Y) For whenever you speak of him you shake your head.”
27 Wasn't Israel an object of mocking for you? Wasn't he treated like a thief, so that whenever you spoke about him you shook your head in contempt?
28 Leave your towns, you inhabitants of Moab. Go and live in the cliffs. Be like a dove that makes its nest high on the sides of a ravine.
28 O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole's mouth.
28 “Leave the cities and dwell among the (AR)crags,O inhabitants of Moab,And be like a (AS)dove that nestsBeyond the mouth of the chasm.
28 Abandon the towns! Live in the cliffs, residents of Moab!Be like a dovethat nests inside the mouth of a cave.(Z)
28 Abandon the cities, and live on the cliffs, you inhabitants of Moab. Be like a dove that builds a nest by the mouth of a cave.
29 I have heard how proud the people of Moab are, I know how haughty they are. I have heard how arrogant, proud, and haughty they are, what a high opinion they have of themselves.
29 We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.
29 “(AT)We have heard of the pride of Moab—he is very proud—Of his haughtiness, his (AU)pride, his arrogance and (r)his self-exaltation.
29 We have heard of Moab’s pride, great pride, indeed—his insolence, arrogance, pride, and haughty heart.
29 We have heard about Moab's pride he's very proud his haughtiness, his arrogance, his insolence, and his conceit.
30 I, the Lord, affirm that I know how arrogant they are. But their pride is ill-founded. Their boastings will prove to be false.
30 I know his wrath, saith the LORD; but it shall not be so; his lies shall not so effect it.
30 “I know his (AV)fury,” declares the Lord,“But it is futile; His idle boasts have accomplished nothing.
30 I know his outburst.This is the Lord’s declaration.It is empty.His boast is empty.
30 I know his gall," declares the LORD, "and it's futile; the boasting that they do is futile.
31 So I will weep with sorrow for Moab. I will cry out in sadness for all of Moab. I will moan for the people of Kir Heres.
31 Therefore will I howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; mine heart shall mourn for the men of Kirheres.
31 “Therefore I will (AW)wail for Moab,Even for all Moab will I cry out;(s)I will moan for the men of (AX)Kir-heres.
31 Therefore, I will wail over Moab.I will cry out for Moab, all of it;he will moan for the men of Kir-heres.
31 Therefore, I'll wail for Moab, and for the whole of Moab I'll cry out, for the men of Kir-heres I'll moan.
32 I will weep for the grapevines of Sibmah just like the town of Jazer weeps over them. Their branches once spread as far as the Dead Sea. They reached as far as the town of Jazer. The destroyer will ravage her fig, date, and grape crops.
32 O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage.
32 “More than the (AY)weeping for (AZ)JazerI will weep for you, O vine of Sibmah!Your tendrils stretched across the sea,They reached to the sea of Jazer;Upon your summer fruits and your grape harvestThe destroyer has fallen.
32 I will weep for you, vine of Sibmah, with more than the weeping for Jazer.Your tendrils have extended to the sea;they have reached to the sea and to Jazer.(i)The destroyer has fallen on your summer fruit and grape harvest.
32 More than the weeping for Jazer, I'll weep for you, vine of Sibmah. Your branches spread out to the sea, and reached as far as the Sea of Jazer. On your summer fruit and grapes the destroyer will fall.
33 Joy and gladness will disappear from the fruitful land of Moab. I will stop the flow of wine from the winepresses. No one will stomp on the grapes there and shout for joy. The shouts there will be shouts of soldiers, not the shouts of those making wine.
33 And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting.
33 “So (BA)gladness and joy are taken awayFrom the fruitful field, even from the land of Moab. And I have made the wine to (BB)cease from the wine presses; No one will tread them with shouting,The shouting will not be shouts of joy.
33 Joy and celebration are taken from the fertile fieldand from the land of Moab.I have stopped the flow of wine from the winepresses;no one will tread with shouts of joy.The shouting is not a shout of joy.(AA)
33 Gladness and rejoicing will be taken away from the fruitful land. From the land of Moab I'll cause the wine in the wine presses to stop flowing. The workers won't tread the grapes with a loud shout. There will be no shout!
34 Cries of anguish raised from Heshbon and Elealeh will be sounded as far as Jahaz. They will be sounded from Zoar as far as Horonaim and Eglath Shelishiyah. For even the waters of Nimrim will be dried up.
34 From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.
34 (BC)From the outcry at Heshbon even to (BD)Elealeh, even to Jahaz they have (t)raised their voice, from (BE)Zoar even to Horonaim and to Eglath-shelishiyah; for even the waters of Nimrim will become desolate.
34 “There is a cry from Heshbon to Elealeh; they raise their voices as far as Jahaz(AB)—from Zoar to Horonaim and Eglath-shelishiyah—because even the waters of Nimrim have become desolate.
34 "From the cry of Heshbon, to Elealeh, to Jahaz they have lifted up their voice. From Zoar to Horonaim and to Eglath-shelishiyah, even the waters of Nimrim will become a desolate place.
35 I will put an end in Moab to those who make offerings at her places of worship. I will put an end to those who sacrifice to other gods. I, the Lord, affirm it!
35 Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
35 I will make an end of Moab,” declares the Lord, “the one who offers sacrifice on the (BF)high place and the one who (u)(BG)burns incense to his gods.
35 In Moab, I will stop”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“the one who offers sacrifices on the high place and burns incense to his gods.(AC)
35 In Moab," declares the LORD, "I'll put an end to the one who offers a burnt offering on the high place and to the one who burns incense to his gods.
36 So my heart moans for Moab like a flute playing a funeral song. Yes, like a flute playing a funeral song, my heart moans for the people of Kir Heres. For the wealth they have gained will perish.
36 Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kirheres: because the riches that he hath gotten are perished.
36 “Therefore My (BH)heart (v)wails for Moab like flutes; My heart also (w)wails like flutes for the men of Kir-heres. Therefore they have (BI)lost the abundance it produced.
36 Therefore, My heart moans like flutes for Moab,(AD) and My heart moans like flutes for the people of Kir-heres. And therefore, the wealth he has gained has perished.
36 Therefore my heart wails for Moab like flutes and my heart wails for the men of Kir-heres like flutes. Therefore they'll lose the abundance they produced.
37 For all of them will shave their heads in mourning. They will all cut off their beards to show their sorrow. They will all make gashes in their hands. They will all put on sackcloth.
37 For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.
37 For (BJ)every head is bald and every beard cut short; there are gashes on all the hands and (BK)sackcloth on the loins.
37 Indeed, every head is bald and every beard clipped;(AE) on every hand is a gash and sackcloth around the waist.
37 Indeed every head will be bald and every beard cut short. There will be gashes on all the hands and sackcloth on the loins.
38 On all the housetops in Moab and in all its public squares there will be nothing but mourning. For I will break Moab like an unwanted jar. I, the Lord, affirm it!
38 There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD.
38 On all the (BL)housetops of Moab and in its streets (x)there is lamentation everywhere; for I have broken Moab like an undesirable (BM)vessel,” declares the Lord.
38 On all the rooftops of Moab and in her public squares, everyone is mourning because I have shattered Moab like a jar no one wants.”(AF) This is the Lord’s declaration.
38 On all the housetops of Moab and in the streets there will be nothing but mourning, for I'll break Moab like a vessel that no one wants," declares the LORD.
39 Oh, how shattered Moab will be! Oh, how her people will wail! Oh, how she will turn away in shame! Moab will become an object of ridicule, a terrifying sight to all the nations that surround her."
39 They shall howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
39 “How (y)shattered it is! How they have wailed! How Moab has turned his back—he is ashamed! So Moab will become a laughingstock and an (BN)object of terror to all around him.”
39 “How broken it is! They wail! How Moab has turned his back! He is ashamed. Moab will become a laughingstock and a shock to all those around him.”(AG)
39 "How it will be shattered! How they'll wail! How Moab will turn his back in shame! Moab will be an object of ridicule and terror to all those around him."
No Escape For Moab
40 For the Lord says, "Look! Like an eagle with outspread wings a nation will swoop down on Moab.
40 For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab.
40 For thus says the Lord:“Behold, one will (BO)fly swiftly like an eagleAnd (BP)spread out his wings against Moab.
40 For this is what the Lord says:He will swoop down like an eagleand spread his wings against Moab.(AH)
40 For this is what the LORD says: "Look, like an eagle one will fly swiftly and spread his wings against Moab.
41 Her towns will be captured. Her fortresses will be taken. At that time the soldiers of Moab will be frightened like a woman in labor.
41 Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men's hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
41 “Kerioth has been capturedAnd the strongholds have been seized,So the (BQ)hearts of the mighty men of Moab in that dayWill be like the heart of a (BR)woman in labor.
41 The towns have(j) been captured, and the strongholds seized. In that day the heart of Moab’s warriorswill be like the heart of a woman with contractions.(AI)
41 The towns will be captured and the strongholds seized. On that day the hearts of the warriors of Moab will be like the heart of a woman in labor.
42 Moab will be destroyed and no longer be a nation, because she has vaunted herself against the Lord.
42 And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD.
42 “Moab will be (BS)destroyed from being a peopleBecause he has (z)become (BT)arrogant toward the Lord.
42 Moab will be destroyed as a nation because he exalted himself against the LORD.
43 Terror, pits, and traps are in store for the people who live in Moab. I, the Lord, affirm it!
43 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.
43 Panic, pit, and trapawait you, resident of Moab. This is the Lord’s declaration.
43 Terror, pit, and trap will be used against you who live in Moab," declares the LORD.
44 Anyone who flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit. Anyone who climbs out of the pit will be caught in a trap. For the time is coming when I will punish the people of Moab. I, the Lord, affirm it!
44 He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.
44 “The one who (BV)flees from the terrorWill fall into the pit,And the one who climbs up out of the pitWill be caught in the snare; For I shall bring upon her, even upon Moab,The year of their (BW)punishment,” declares the Lord.
44 He who flees from the panic will fall in the pit,and he who climbs from the pitwill be captured in the trap, for I will bring against Moabthe year of their punishment. This is the Lord’s declaration.(AK)
44 "The one who flees from the terror will fall into a pit. And the one who comes up out of the pit will be caught in a trap. For I'll bring upon her, that is upon Moab, the time of her punishment," declares the LORD.
45 In the shadows of the walls of Heshbon those trying to escape will stand helpless. For a fire will burst forth from Heshbon. Flames will shoot out from the former territory of Sihon. They will burn the foreheads of the people of Moab, the skulls of those war-loving people.
45 They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.
45 “In the shadow of HeshbonThe fugitives stand without strength; For a fire has gone forth from HeshbonAnd a (BX)flame from the midst of (BY)Sihon,And it has devoured the (BZ)forehead of MoabAnd the scalps of the (aa)riotous revelers.
45 Those who flee will stand exhausted in Heshbon’s shadowbecause fire has come out from Heshbonand a flame from within Sihon. It will devour Moab’s foreheadand the skull of the noisemakers.
45 "The fugitives will stand without strength in the shadow of Heshbon, for fire will go out from Heshbon and a flame from the middle of Sihon. It will devour the forehead of Moab and the heads of the rebellious people.
46 Moab, you are doomed! You people who worship Chemosh will be destroyed. Your sons will be taken away captive. Your daughters will be carried away into exile.
46 Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.
46 “(CA)Woe to you, Moab! The people of (CB)Chemosh have perished; For your sons have been taken away captiveAnd your daughters into captivity.

46 How terrible for you, Moab! The people of Chemosh will perish. Indeed, your sons will be taken into captivity, and your daughters as well.
47 Yet in days to come I will reverse Moab's ill fortune." says the Lord. The judgment against Moab ends here.
47 Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
47 “Yet I will (CC)restore the (ab)fortunes of MoabIn the (ac)latter days,” declares the Lord. Thus far the judgment on Moab.
47 Yet, I will restore the fortunes(k) of Moab in the last days.(AM)This is the Lord’s declaration. The judgment on Moab ends here.
47 But I'll restore the fortunes of Moab in the latter days," declares the LORD. This concludes the judgment on Moab.
