Job's Discourse On Wisdom
2 Iron is taken from the ground; and copper is smelted from ore.
2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
2 “Iron is taken from the dust,And copper is smelted from rock.
2 Iron is taken from the ground, and copper is smelted from ore.
2 “Iron is taken out of the earth,And copper is smelted from the stone ore.
3 Mankind limits the darkness as they search the deepest depths for ore in unfathomable darkness.
3 He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
3 “Man puts an end to darkness,And (A)to the farthest limit he searches outThe rock in gloom and deep shadow.
3 A miner puts an end to the darkness;he probes(a) the deepest recessesfor ore in the gloomy darkness.
3 “Man puts an end to darkness [by bringing in a light],And to the farthest bounds he searches outThe rock buried in gloom and deep shadow.
4 He sinks his shaft far from human habitations, in a place forgotten by explorers; they hang on harnesses as they swing back and forth.
4 The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
4 “He (c)sinks a shaft far from (d)habitation,Forgotten by the foot; They hang and swing to and fro far from men.
4 He cuts a shaft far from human habitation,in places unknown to those who walk above ground.(b)Suspended far away from people, the miners swing back and forth.
4 “He breaks open (mine) shafts far away from where people live,[In places] forgotten by the [human] foot; They dangle [in the mines] and hang away from men.
5 "While the ground produces food, underneath it is torn up and burning hot,
5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
5 “The earth, from it comes food,And underneath it is turned up as fire.
5 Food may come from the earth, but below the surface the earth is transformed as by fire.
5 “[As for] the earth, out of it comes food,But underneath [its surface, down deep] it is turned over as fire.
7 a place where birds of prey never fly, and the eyes of the falcon have never seen.
7 There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen:
7 “The path no bird of prey knows,Nor has the falcon’s eye caught sight of it.
7 No bird of prey knows that path;no falcon’s eye has seen it.
7 “The path [deep within] no bird of prey knows,And the falcon’s eye has not caught sight of it.
8 The proud beasts haven't walked there; lions have never passed over it.
8 The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
8 Proud beasts have never walked on it;no lion has ever prowled over it.
8 “The proud beasts [and their young] have not walked on it,Nor has the fierce lion passed over it.
9 "Using a flint, he thrusts his hand, overturning mountains by the roots.
9 He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
9 The miner strikes the flintand transforms the mountains at their foundations.
9 “Man puts his hand on [and tears apart] the flinty rock;He overturns the mountains at the base [looking for treasure].
10 He cuts a channel through the rocks, while his eyes search for anything of value.
10 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
10 “He hews out channels through the rocks,And his eye sees anything precious.
10 He cuts out channels in the rocks, and his eyes spot every treasure.
10 “He cuts out channels and passages among the rocks; And his eye sees every precious thing.
