2 saying to them, Go into the village over against you, and immediately ye will find an ass tied, and a colt with it; loose them and lead them to me.

2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me.

2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

2 telling them, “Go into the village ahead of you. At once you will find a donkey tied there, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to Me.

2 told them, "Go into the village ahead of you. At once you will find a donkey tied up and a colt with it. Untie them, and bring them to me.

3 And if any one say anything to you, ye shall say, The Lord has need of them, and straightway he will send them.

3 If anyone says anything to you, tell him, "The Lord needs them,' and that person will send them at once."

4 But all this came to pass, that that might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,

4 (C)This (a)took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

4 This took place so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled:

4 Now this happened to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet when he said,

5 Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold thy King cometh to thee, meek, and mounted upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

5 (D)Say to the daughter of Zion,Behold your King is coming to you,Gentle, and mounted on a donkey,Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

5 Tell Daughter Zion,“Look, your King is coming to you, gentle, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.”(C)(a)

5 "Tell the daughter of Zion, "Look, your king is coming to you! He is humble and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt of a donkey.'"

6 But the disciples, having gone and done as Jesus had ordered them,

6 The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them,

6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,

6 The disciples went and did just as Jesus directed them.

6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.

7 brought the ass and the colt and put their garments upon them, and he sat on them.

7 and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on (b)the coats.

7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

7 They brought the donkey and the colt; then they laid their robes on them, and He sat on them.

7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put their coats on them, and he sat upon them.

8 But a very great crowd strewed their own garments on the way, and others kept cutting down branches from the trees and strewing them on the way.

8 Most of the crowd (E)spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road.

8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

8 A very large crowd spread their robes on the road; others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road.

8 Many people in the crowd spread their own coats on the road, while others began cutting down branches from the trees and spreading them on the road.

9 And the crowds who went before him and who followed cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed be he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest.

9 The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting,“Hosanna to the (F)Son of David;(G)Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;Hosanna (H)in the highest!”

9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

9 Then the crowds who went ahead of Him and those who followed kept shouting:Hosanna to the Son of David! He who comes in the nameof the Lord is the blessed One!(b)Hosanna in the highest heaven!(D)

9 Both the crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed him kept shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! How blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"

10 And as he entered into Jerusalem, the whole city was moved, saying, Who is this?

10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?”

10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

10 When He entered Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken, saying, “Who is this?”

10 When he came into Jerusalem, the whole city was trembling with excitement. The people were asking, "Who is this?"

11 And the crowds said, This is Jesus the prophet who is from Nazareth of Galilee.

11 And the crowds were saying, “This is (I)the prophet Jesus, from (J)Nazareth in Galilee.”

11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

11 And the crowds kept saying, “This is the prophet Jesus(E) from Nazareth in Galilee!”

11 The crowds kept saying, "This is the prophet Jesus, the man from Nazareth in Galilee."

The Cleansing Of The Temple

12 And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those that sold the doves.

12 (K)And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the (L)money changers and the seats of those who were selling (M)doves.

12 Then Jesus went into the Temple, threw out everyone who was selling and buying in the Temple, and overturned the moneychangers' tables and the chairs of those who sold doves.

13 And he says to them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of robbers.

13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘(N)My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a (O)robbers(c)den.”

13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

13 And He said to them, “It is written, My house will be called a house of prayer.(d) But you are making it a den of thieves!”(H)(e)

13 He told them, "It is written, "My house is to be called a house of prayer,' but you are turning it into a hideout for bandits!"

Children Praise Jesus

14 And blind and lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.

14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and (P)He healed them.

14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

14 The blind and the lame came to Him in the temple complex, and He healed them.

14 Blind and lame people came to him in the Temple, and he healed them.

15 And when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonders which he wrought, and the children crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were indignant,

15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the (Q)Son of David,” they became indignant

15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,

15 When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonders that He did and the children shouting in the temple complex, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant

15 But when the high priests and the scribes saw the amazing things that he had done and the children shouting in the Temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they became furious

16 and said to him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus says to them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus *said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘(R)Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?”

16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?”“Yes,” Jesus told them. “Have you never read:You have prepared(f) praise(I)from the mouths of children and nursing infants?”(g)

16 and asked him, "Do you hear what these people are saying?"

17 And leaving them he went forth out of the city to Bethany, and there he passed the night.

17 And He left them and went out of the city to (S)Bethany, and spent the night there.

17 And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.

17 Then He left them, went out of the city to Bethany,(J) and spent the night there.

17 Jesus told them, "Yes! Haven't you ever read, "From the mouths of infants and nursing babies you have created praise'?" Then he left them and went out of the city to Bethany and spent the night there.

A Barren Fig Tree Cursed

18 But early in the morning, as he came back into the city, he hungered.

18 (T)Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry.

18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.

18 Early in the morning,(K) as He was returning to the city, He was hungry.

18 In the morning, as Jesus was returning to the city, he became hungry.

19 And seeing one fig-tree in the way, he came to it and found on it nothing but leaves only. And he says to it, Let there be never more fruit of thee for ever. And the fig-tree was immediately dried up.

19 Seeing a lone (U)fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He *said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.

19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

19 Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He went up to it and found nothing on it except leaves. And He said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” At once the fig tree withered.

19 Seeing a fig tree by the roadside, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. He told it, "May fruit never come from you again!" And immediately the fig tree dried up.

20 And when the disciples saw it, they wondered, saying, How immediately is the fig-tree dried up!

20 Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?”

20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

20 When the disciples saw it, they were amazed and said, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”

20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree dry up so quickly?" they asked.

21 And Jesus answering said to them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and do not doubt, not only shall ye do what is done to the fig-tree, but even if ye should say to this mountain, Be thou taken away and be thou cast into the sea, it shall come to pass.

21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, (V)if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen.

21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

21 Jesus answered them, “I assure you: If you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you tell this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done.(L)

21 Jesus answered them, "I tell all of you with certainty, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you be able to do what has been done to the fig tree, but you will also say to this mountain, "Be removed and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen.

22 And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

22 And (W)all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

22 And if you believe, you will receive(M) whatever you ask for in prayer.”

22 You will receive whatever you ask for in prayer, if you believe."

Jesus' Authority Challenged

23 And when he came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, saying, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

23 (X)When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him (Y)while He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?”

23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

23 When He entered the temple complex,(N) the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to Him as He was teaching and said, “By what authority are You doing these things? Who gave You this authority?”(O)

23 Then Jesus went into the Temple. While he was teaching, the high priests and the elders of the people came to him and asked, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"

24 And Jesus answering said to them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things:

24 Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one (d)thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.

24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

24 Jesus answered them, “I will also ask you one question, and if you answer it for Me, then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

24 Jesus answered them, "I, too, will ask you one question. If you answer it for me, I will also tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

25 The baptism of John, whence was it? of heaven or of men? And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we should say, Of heaven, he will say to us, Why then have ye not believed him?

25 The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?” And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’

25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

25 Where did John’s baptism come from? From heaven or from men?”They began to argue among themselves, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’(P)

25 Where did John's authority to baptize come from? From heaven or from humans?"

26 but if we should say, Of men, we fear the crowd, for all hold John for a prophet.

26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the (e)people; for they all regard John as (Z)a prophet.”

26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we’re afraid of the crowd,(Q) because everyone thought John was a prophet.”(R)

26 They began discussing this among themselves: "If we say, "From heaven,' he will ask us, "Then why didn't you believe him?' But if we say, "From humans,' we are afraid of the crowd, because everyone regards John as a prophet."

27 And answering Jesus they said, We do not know. He also said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

27 And answering Jesus, they said, “We do not know.” He also said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

27 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

27 So they told Jesus, "We don't know." He in turn told them, "Then I won't tell you by what authority I am doing these things."

The Parable Of The Two Sons

28 But what think ye? A man had two children, and coming to the first he said, Child, go to-day, work in my vineyard.

28 “But what do you think? A man had two (f)sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘(g)Son, go work today in the (AA)vineyard.’

28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘My son, go, work in the vineyard today.’(S)

28 "But what do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, "Son, go and work in the vineyard today.'

29 And he answering said, I will not; but afterwards repenting himself he went.

29 And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went.

29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

29 “He answered, ‘I don’t want to!’ Yet later he changed his mind and went.

29 His son replied, "I don't want to,' but later he changed his mind and went.

30 And coming to the second he said likewise; and he answering said, I go, sir, and went not.

30 The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, ‘I will, sir’; but he did not go.

30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

30 Then the man went to the other and said the same thing.“‘I will, sir,’ he answered. But he didn’t go.

30 Then the father went to the other son and told him the same thing. He replied, "I will, sir,' but he didn't go.

31 Which of the two did the will of the father? They say to him, The first. Jesus says to them, Verily I say unto you that the tax-gatherers and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They *said, “The first.” Jesus *said to them, “Truly I say to you that (AB)the tax collectors and prostitutes (h)will get into the kingdom of God before you.

31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

31 “Which of the two did his father’s will?”“The first,” they said.Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you!

31 Which of the two did the father's will?" They answered, "The first one."

32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the tax-gatherers and the harlots believed him; but ye when ye saw it repented not yourselves afterwards to believe him.

32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but (AC)the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him.

32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness,(T) and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him, but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.

32 Jesus told them, "I tell all of you with certainty, tax collectors and prostitutes will get into God's kingdom ahead of you! John came to you living a righteous life, and you didn't believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. But even when you saw that, you didn't change your minds at last and believe him."

The Parable Of The Tenant Farmers In The Vineyard

33 Hear another parable: There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and made a fence round it, and dug a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and left the country.

33 “Listen to another parable. (AD)There was a (i)landowner who (AE)planted a (AF)vineyard and put a wall around it and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and rented it out to (j)vine-growers and (AG)went on a journey.

33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

33 “Listen(U) to another parable:(V) There was a man, a landowner, who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower.(W) He leased it to tenant farmers and went away.(X)

33 "Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a wall around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went abroad.

34 But when the time of fruit drew near, he sent his bondmen to the husbandmen to receive his fruits.

34 When the (k)harvest time approached, he (AH)sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his produce.

34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.

34 When the grape harvest(h) drew near, he sent his slaves to the farmers to collect his fruit.

34 When harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenant farmers to collect his produce.

35 And the husbandmen took his bondmen, and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

35 The vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, and killed another, and stoned a third.

35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

35 But the farmers took his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.(Y)

35 But the farmers took his servants and beat one, killed another, and attacked another with stones.

36 Again he sent other bondmen more than the first, and they did to them in like manner.

36 Again he (AI)sent another group of slaves larger than the first; and they did the same thing to them.

36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.

36 Again, he sent other slaves, more than the first group, and they did the same to them.

36 Again, he sent other servants to them, a greater number than the first, but the tenant farmers treated them the same way.

37 And at last he sent to them his son, saying, They will have respect for my son.

37 But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.

37 Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.

37 Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, "They will respect my son.'

38 But the husbandmen, seeing the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him and possess his inheritance.

38 But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’

38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

38 “But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance!’(Z)

38 But when the tenant farmers saw his son, they told one another, "This is the heir. Come on, let's kill him and get his inheritance!'

39 And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him.

39 They took him, and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.

39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.

39 So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

39 So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

40 When therefore the lord of the vineyard comes, what shall he do to those husbandmen?

40 Therefore when the (l)owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?”

40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

40 Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?”

40 Now when the owner of the vineyard returns, what will he do to those farmers?"

41 They say to him, He will miserably destroy those evil men, and let out the vineyard to other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

41 They *said to Him, “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, and (AJ)will rent out the vineyard to other vine-growers who will pay him the proceeds at the proper seasons.”

41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

41 “He will completely destroy those terrible men,” they told Him, “and lease his vineyard to other farmers who will give him his produce at the harvest.”(i)(AA)

41 They told him, "He will put those horrible men to a horrible death. Then he will lease the vineyard to other farmers who will give him his produce at harvest time."

42 Jesus says to them, Have ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which they that builded rejected, this has become the corner-stone: this is of the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes?

42 Jesus *said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures,(AK)The stone which the builders rejected,This became the chief corner stone; This came about from the Lord,And it is marvelous in our eyes’?

42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:The stone that the builders rejectedhas become the cornerstone.(j)This came from the Lordand is wonderful in our eyes?(AB)(k)

42 Jesus asked them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures, "The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing, and it is amazing in our eyes.'?

43 Therefore I say to you, that the kingdom of God shall be taken from you and shall be given to a nation producing the fruits of it.

43 Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a (m)people, producing the fruit of it.

43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing its(l) fruit.

43 That is why I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce fruit for it.

44 And he that falls on this stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it shall grind him to powder.

44 And (AL)he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.”

44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

44 [Whoever falls on this stone will be broken to pieces;(AC) but on whoever it falls, it will grind him to powder!]”(m)

44 The person who falls over this stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush anyone on whom it falls."

45 And the chief priests and the Pharisees, having heard his parables, knew that he spoke about them.

45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them.

45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables,(AD) they knew He was speaking about them.

45 When the high priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was talking about them.

46 And seeking to lay hold of him, they were afraid of the crowds, because they held him for a prophet.

46 When they sought to seize Him, they (AM)feared the (n)people, because they considered Him to be a (AN)prophet.

46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
