I was given a painful physical ailment that will keep me from being puffed up with pride because of the many wonderful things I saw. It acts as Satan's messenger to beat me and keep me from being proud.
So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. And in the morning I did as I was commanded.
Even to this present hour we both hunger and thirst. We are naked. We are treated badly and we are homeless.
in beatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watching, in fasting;
Are they ministers of Christ? I speak as a fool. I am more in labors more abundant, beaten beyond number, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often.
We do not want anyone to be discouraged by these troubles. You know we were bound to suffer persecution.

To the contrary, it is placed on a table so all may see. Likewise, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walks about, seeking whom he may devour (consume). Stand firm in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brothers in the world. After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will perfect, establish, and strengthen you.
