And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who was passing by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

And might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, having slain the enmity thereby.
Which none of the rulers of this world knew; for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
And coming out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
And as they led him away, they laid hold on one Simon a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
For I determined not to know any thing among you save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction,
And he that taketh not his cross and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
And he said to all, if any man be willing to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow me.
And whosoever doth not bear his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
I know not that I baptized any other. For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel; but not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the doctrine of the cross is indeed to them that perish foolishness; but to us who are saved, it is the power of God.
