He said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."
But Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword back into its sheath! Am I not to drink the cup that the Father has given me?"
Going a little farther, he threw himself down with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if possible, let this cup pass from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will."
Verse Concepts
"Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but yours be done."
I offered my back to those who attacked, my jaws to those who tore out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spitting.
He has no need to do every day what those priests do, to offer sacrifices first for their own sins and then for the sins of the people, since he did this in offering himself once for all.
This is why the Father loves me -- because I lay down my life, so that I may take it back again. No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down of my own free will. I have the authority to lay it down, and I have the authority to take it back again. This commandment I received from my Father."
So I will assign him a portion with the multitudes, he will divide the spoils of victory with the powerful, because he willingly submitted to death and was numbered with the rebels, when he lifted up the sin of many and intervened on behalf of the rebels."
for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the consummation of the ages to put away sin by his sacrifice.
I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is finished!
He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death -- even death on a cross!
Jesus replied, "You would have no authority over me at all, unless it was given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of greater sin."
He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will must be done."
Jesus replied, "I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, let these men go."
And he said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
The Son of Man will go as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had never been born."
Or do you think that I cannot call on my Father, and that he would send me more than twelve legions of angels right now? How then would the scriptures that say it must happen this way be fulfilled?"
Now when the days drew near for him to be taken up, Jesus set out resolutely to go to Jerusalem.
They replied, "Jesus the Nazarene." He told them, "I am he." (Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, was standing there with them.)
