For just as the lightning starts in the east and flashes clear to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will flock. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the nations of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky in overwhelming power and splendor. the one who keeps up his opposition and so far exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, that he actually takes his seat in the sanctuary of God, proclaiming himself to be God. But be sure of this, that if the master of the house had known in exactly what part of the night the thief would come, he would have been on guard and would not have let his house be broken into. As He was leaving the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, "Look, Teacher! What stupendous stones, what beautiful buildings!" Jesus said to him, "Are you looking in wonder at these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another that will not be torn down." You will be hated by everybody, because you bear my name. But whoever bears up to the end will be saved. Yes, you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends, and they will put some of you to death, and you will be continuously hated by everyone, because you bear my name. And yet not a single hair on your head will perish. By your endurance you will win your souls. "When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, then understand that her devastation is near. Then let those in Judea begin to fly to the mountains, and those within the city begin to get out of it, for these are the days of vengeance when all that is written in the Scriptures will be fulfilled. Alas for the women who are pregnant and those who have nursing babies in those days! For there will be great misery in the land and wrath on this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and will be carried off as captives among all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled under the feet of the heathen, until the times of the heathen come to full measure. And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on earth despair of nations in bewilderment at the roaring of the sea and its waves, men fainting with fear and apprehension of the things that are to come upon the world, for the powers of the sky will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud in overwhelming power and splendor. When these things begin to take place, look up and lift your heads, for your deliverance is drawing near." For since it was through a man that death resulted, it was also through a man that the resurrection of the dead resulted. Now when they take you to court for trial, do not be worrying beforehand about what you should say, but say whatever is given you at that time, for it is not you that will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit. One brother will turn another over to death, and a father his child, and children will take a stand against their parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by everybody, because you bear my name. But whoever bears up to the end will be saved. "So when you see the destructive desecration standing where he has no right to stand" -- let the reader take notice -- "then let those who remain in Judea fly to the hills; let him who is on the roof of his house not go down and go into the house to get anything out of it; let him who is in the field not turn back to get his coat. Alas for the women who are expectant mothers and those who have nursing babies, in those days! And pray that it may not be in winter, for there will be such misery at that time as has never been since the beginning of God's creation, and never will be again. If the Lord had not cut those days short, nobody would have escaped, but for the sake of the people chosen as His own He has cut them short.
