But they did not all hearken to the glad tidings. For Isaiah saith, "Lord, who hath believed what he hath heard from us?" Faith then cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.





For while passing along and observing your objects of worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, "To an unknown God." And he made of one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having fixed appointed times, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek God, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he is not far from every one of us. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all impiety and unrighteousness of men, who keep down the truth in unrighteousness. Because that which may be known of God is manifest within them; for God made it manifest to them. For, ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes, even his eternal power and divinity, being perceived from his works, are clearly seen, so that they might be without excuse.
