When therefore he had heard that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no delay, O my God.


Then said Martha to Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.



By faith Abraham, when he was called to remove into a place which he should afterwards receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out not knowing whither he was going.




And when he had come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith to them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said to him, Yes, Lord.

But Jesus said to her, Let the children first be satisfied: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the dogs.

And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, and, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:


Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

But, in the business of the embassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.


Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.


And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldst keep his commandments, or not.

Thou shalt not hearken to the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.


Every man's work will be made manifest: for the day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will try every man's work, of what sort it is.



And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the LORD an offering in righteousness.

When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come to him, he saith to Philip, Whence shall we buy bread that these may eat? (And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.)


And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely. Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.


Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbors, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.


And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.

And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round the city once: thus shalt thou do six days.


And the LORD said to Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thy hand: and let all the other people go every man to his place.


He is like a man who built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
