For while passing along and observing your objects of worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, "To an unknown God." What therefore ye, without knowledge of it, worship, that do I make known to you. And now, brethren, I know that ye acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. But God thus fulfilled what he had before announced by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer.
This therefore I say, and charge you in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the rest of the gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God on account of the ignorance that is in them, on account of the hardness of their hearts; who, being past feeling, have given themselves up to wantonness, to work all uncleanness in greediness.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all impiety and unrighteousness of men, who keep down the truth in unrighteousness.
since they show that what the Law requireth is written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and their thoughts in turn accusing or defending them; in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to the gospel which I have preached.
but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. And be ready always to give an answer to every one that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, but with meekness and fear;
